My S4 is overheating ,, but there is no loss of coolant , head gaskets are fine , expansion tank is ok , and no air in system but after 50 mile ride the temp light and fans are on or even a few minutes in traffic it does the same ?? I have owned this bike for 19 years and its never done this before ,, yes the fans might come on in heavy traffic ,, this is now happening every time the bike goes out ????

Is there a better coolant I might try ?? currently using 70% distilled water and 30% non silicant coolant

faulty temp sensor? coolant not circulating properly (pump/obstruction)?

how do you test the pump and impellor to verify its good ?????
The temp sensor is OK i swopped it for a spare good one and no change

Check the thermostat as most likley culprit however those water pumps are quite well known for shedding blades, easy job to pop it off and check,

Took the pump off all blades are OK, how to check thermostat ???

I may have a buyer for the Bike ,
And im also hoping to sell the Z900 too, im no longer enjoying Thailand and dont see myself continuing my time here much in the future so im selling off all my stuff here , recently pulled the plug on my 20 years relationship here due her increasing alchohol problems and refusal to change ,after 30 years im probably tired of the place , have sold my home here too,

have not used the JP diag for a few years will it test Thermostat

Wish ya luck in whatever you do Jerry, you seem to attract bad luck like sh*t to a blanket

Kimbo
Only over last few year mate ,, Im actually in a great situation financially , have 2 homes, lots of Toys yes my health aint so good but I am 67 ,and I have ADHD and have had ups and downs mentally over last 67 years , but personally i have been very unsettled over last 3 years since retirement ,, bored , not resiliant and not very sociable or able to put up with other peoples stupidity ,, also all the bikes , tools cars , homes I have im tired of having so many possessions they are all traps ,, but im also getting older and less adventurous so its all a bit of a dilemma . So basicaly I have become a risk averse , grumpy , misanthropic old git with a bad negative outlook ... and thats not what i was ..Used to be very adventurous , life of the party, crazy , a leader at work , fearless ,,, impulsive and very tolerant ,, not any more but compared to 90% of people I am lucky

JPDiag my arse.
Put it in a pan of water with a thermometer in it and warm it up till it opens.

ran out of time to do all this work as i am soon coming back to UK on Monday , will need to bring spares next time from UK, plus spares I ordered here have not yet turned up .Bike now in storage The guy who want to buy it is on a business trip so that will have to wait too.
Also have have lost motivation to work on the bike and life due to walking out of a 20 year relationship .

Water pump is working OK it has new seals yes looks a bit tired but no busted fins on impeller so that's not the problem , I am going to try and get the thermostat off to test but it means a lot of disassembly to get as its buried behind frame so airbox, radiator , battery , and other bits have to come off to get at the damn thing ..

Im flying to UK Monday Night so not much time and I kind of lost my enthusiasm for looking at the bike for a few days so wasted time , When in UK I will buy a new Thermostat anyway and maybe the temp sensor ???

Also how can I clean the fuel stains off the new powder coat on frame ? seems the fuel tank sender green Oring gasket is leaking and it was replaced when i assembled the bike 2 years ago

Have you tried carb cleaner on the stains Jerry? I'd test it on a small area first but if it doesn't melt the paint it should remove fuel varnish.

Check the thermostat as most likley culprit however those water pumps are quite well known for shedding blades, easy job to pop it off and check,
Kato ......Talking to Ducati owners here many of them remove the thermostat or they gut damaged thermostats to keep a slightly restricted flow as the ambient heat is usually at least 30c+ up to 40c and never falls below 20c on start up and the engines heat up fast here in Thailand except in the far North mountains in winter months when it can be 2-3c with morning frosts but by 10am its up to 25c or more .

The Photo of the impeller blades show they are all there some wear visible but it turns over fine what do you think of it ??? I have identified the Temp sensor as a Bosch one and it can be got in UK for £7 ,, im also going to get some ice type coolant in UK to bring back next time
