Tank now sold...

This is a metal tank which is from an M900ie 2000-2001.
It could well fit other models and years, but I'm not confident enough to say which ones.
It does fit an M1000 from 2005 as I tried it on one, but the welded seam just below the catch contacted the air box lid, but not by much. The plastic lid could probably be warmed with a hot air gun and pressed down for clearance if needs be.
It will not be suitable for carbie models due to the plumbing. Injection models only.

The tank has been recently resprayed in Rosso Red. Genuine Ducati Decals in Silver have been applied in the correct positions and 2k clearcoat applied.
Interior is clean.
Internal breather pipes have both been checked for blockages and a guitar string can be passed all the way through both.
It has a metal catch and both frame rubbers. (All of which should be carefully adjusted upon fitting to your bike.)
Connection decal still intact, so you know where to put the pipes.
The hinge is leak free and has been reinforced with Silver solder.
Will require your filler cap and key, also no pump, fuel level sender, filters or flexible plumbing.

I'm asking £250 on here, but more on ebay. Postage extra but would prefer to deliver by hand (Or collection.) to make sure it gets to the buyer intact. I will travel up to 80 miles and meet a buyer.

Regarding fitment:

Colour aside, it looks to be the same tank as mine - that is, an injection tank but fits fine on an old carby Monster frame, albeit you need to use a different fuel pump and hose setup.

On mine, I use the internal electric pump/filter arrangement to supply fuel to twin FCR carbs and it works very well, doing away with the temperamental vacuum pump/tap and external filter arrangement.

Fair comment Tim. I can see how easy it would be to run this with carbs, but not exactly plug and play for the average owner.
I'm sure anyone with the nonce would know what they would be getting into.

Just made out what looks like a date in the last photo, that I had not noticed on the tank.
Looks like 15/04/02, so it alludes to being okay for a 2002 bike?

Does anyone know if this metal tank will fit a SR series monster as an alternative to the plastic ones?

I wish I could answer that!
It will depend on the shape and size of the SR airbox and battery location. As mentioned it fitted Dacs' M1000 except for a slight contact at the front seam just below the catch, where it met the airbox lid. It only needed a few mm to clear, which I suggested could be achieved by moulding it down a little with a hot air gun.
If you could compare the part numbers for airboxes that might help you? provided the battery is also a lie-down sealed one like the M1000.
It's the same frame and engine as S2R 1000 so there could be a good chance it will go?

There would also be the issue of fitting a new fuel pump, level sender and filters as I don't think that the plastic tank ones would interchange.
I know they all mount on the removable base plate but not sure if they are the same items?
Also not sure if your fuel cap would fit in a new outer ring? The bottom entry pump assy tanks (plastic) have just the filler cap, whereas the earlier ie metal ones have a larger outer ring containing the cap assy, so you get a bigger hole to get your hand in to clip the pump in.
You could of course get a new/second hand cap and ring, but your ignition key won't fit.

Now then, I have tried fitting a battery on top of the vertical cylinder head as per a 04 1000ds under a 94 carbie petrol tank and it doesn't fit. Later tanks have I think a lesser capacity due to accommodating the battery. However I could have done with this tank when I first fitted an injection lump to my carbie bike.

Looking into this a bit further, but only with images gleaned from the internet, I think your cap will mount into an outsourced outer ring as the plastic tanks seem to have the same shape and fixings as the outer ring.
This outer ring is alloy and pops into the larger tank aperture, then you basically have the same hole as a plastic tank to fit your cap into.
An alternative might be an aftermarket keyless cap?

Also looks like the pump and filter would swap over but I'm sure you would need the dedicated metal tank level sender. This incorporates the sub loom to power the pump and is the only way in for the cables, so possibly some jiggery to get the plug to mate with your harness socket?

As for the underside clearing everything, I couldn't say! It looks from pictures to be that there is more room under the metal tank?
If only there was an s#r nearby I could try it on.
