should be a bog standard double filament 12v 21w stop and tail lamp bulb
when you look inside the glass of the bulb it should have 4 prongs and 2 wiggle lines (filament) contecting.

That's what I was going to say, but I think it's a seperate lamp for the reg plate (unless its had a tail chop). ;)

I tried to get one from my local Halfords recently, and was told that the lamp that I was asking for didn't exist!

They apologised once I pulled the broken lamp out of my pocket.

i've found out that you don't actually need a great deal for MOT's.
Used to work in Halfords (great days) and I think what you're after is a 12V 3/5W (can't remember which) push in wedge jobbie. Think its a halfords 501. thats the number printed in the little blue box, top right hand corner of the packet.

I spent too long in that place.....

Lostagain,

It could be a good kick off for a new 'anorak' thread. Something along the lines of "Great automotive bulbs of the 21st century" perhaps?

Now wheres my digital camera? - Halfords here I come :D

I must apologise to all for my last post. I have grossly misinformed you all. The HAL501 is in fact the 12V 21/5W stop and tail light. The bulb you require is in fact a HAL301.

dagnammit. I shudn't even have a clue about part numbers for bulbs. Its just wrong!
I really did spend far too much time in that place, 2 shifts a week for 6 months is more than enough for anyone. Although after telling them where to shove it I may have to go begging back there for some part time work as well as working a 40hr week elsewhere. Gotta love those student debts!!
