Please could anyone help me give a friend a valuation for a 2001 M750 Dark?
It's the last of the carbie 750's and also has the "hoop" rear suspension link.
The bike is in good overall condition @ 24000 miles and is MOTed for 12 months
Service history is "partial" I don't know if that is recent or very historic.
It has silly indicators, silencers and handlebar levers, not to my taste but I'm old fashioned! Oh, and it's been tail chopped as well.

It does look generally in good condition and well looked after. (Silly add on's notwithstanding!)

I'd appreciate any guidance please, I'd like to give my friend an answer on Friday.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks mate. I thought that would be the bottom of a range from 1800 to 2200, but I reckon you're more on the money with a plain £1800.

Time was when there would have been at least half a dozen replies by now. Reflects the health of the club I suppose?
Putting it to sleep seems like the kindest thing.

Any other opinions more than welcome in the meantime..

I refrained from commenting because I haven't been up to speed with the market for a few years.
This is partly because my own M750 of very similar age has long since transcended any notion of monetary value in my eyes.
In that respect its kinda priceless really.
Off the top of my head, I would have pegged this one a little lower ... around the £1500 mark would be my guess.
But that doesn't necessarily reflect the current state of market trends.

I only commented because we picked up Louise's 620ie last year from a friend who originally bought it new in 2005 and I paid £1500 so guessed a 750 would be around the same-ish kind of price.

I'm selling loads of 900 bits on ebay right now and nothing is shifting - wonder if the bottom has dropped out of the market? Does not really bother me as my 900 is a keeper and the bits can gather dust in the garage rather than sell for pennies.

Many thanks for your valuable insights Jeff and Ben.
You have focused this value business quite nicely I think. I've only just noticed that the bike in question has been tail chopped as well, so I personally wouldn't even consider it.
I'm on my way down to see my mate this morning so will forward the info. He's been offered it as a trade in against an electric bike.

Good time to be buying a Monster though if you like that sort of thing... Must get mine advertised.

Nearly chopped the tail off mine before common sense kicked in.

Stupidly gave my spare frame to Jeff years ago - doh! 🤣

Prices above sound about right to me. IMHO, advantages of the 750 are that it is more sprightly than the 600, smoother than the 900 and, as it has carbs, is a Mk 1 Monster (unlike my 2002 750 Mk 1.5) so the stance is preferable. Disadvantage is that the 620ie and the 800 have better engines. Biggest disadvantage is that there appears to be no market left for Monsters except, possibly, for people who create cafe racers. Isn't that one of your friend's interests, Gary?

Ah! You're referring to Alec's Old Empire Motorcycles branch.
Yes that's still ticking over. He built the Typhoon many years ago, based on a 900SS. I saw it at East Kirkby once... Wouldn't fancy riding it though!

As Dacs says, the market for monsters seems to be diminished but its worth noting that the 750 has a particularly niche market with little appeal beyond the enlightened devotees.
Most folk go for the classic 900 monster with its classic dry clutch rattle etc.
Thus it might take a while to find a buyer at the right price.
The 750 is a great bike though, with just enough extra shove over the 600 and its wet clutch is a long term maintenance free advantage over the tetchy dry variety ... in my opinion.

And Ben, thanks very much for the frame all those years ago. However I never actually used it in the end and its still hanging in my shed.
I'm happy to hold on to it but let me know if you ever want it back and I'll deliver it.

Whatever the market might say, at £1500 the 750 is one hell of a bike .... and virtually electronics free too.

Wasn't there someone on here a few months ago looking for a 600 but becoming tempted by a 750 ?

Thanks - if I get it back I'll be tempted to build another Monster..... mind you I bet the tail is in better condition than what I'm currently building on....

I'll have a think and let you know as I'm still in the same place, just have a garage full of WW2 Jeep since you last came!
