UKMOC leadership in 2025

Thanks for your thoughts Crawford. First your intercourse on the forum and drive to meet other members for ride outs is the very essence of the club. Don't dismiss your excellent contribution and please keep it up. It's really good to know we have nerve endings right up to Bonnie Scotland.

On the kind of media we operate on; I think it's wrong to blame the fact that we rely on a forum. It doesn't matter what the medium is so long as it is not diluted by multiple kinds of medium. We started out as a forum based club, we have a spanking new forum. Let's stick with that and focus.
One single massive advantage of this format is that posts remain for posterity and so years of wisdom and information is preserved, if maybe not indexed particularly well. I'm sure there will be some kind of algorithm or some such that could be applied to retrieve whatever it is you're looking for one day. No reason why the forum could not be fine tuned with the latest thing when it comes along if someone has the nonce to apply it.

I totally agree with the comment that the forum and indeed the club has taken a massive swerve.
Let's not forget that the Pandemic was a big knock, but it was the same for everyone and we're through that now, until the next one.
We certainly have lost some very fine members for various reasons, death being one and I feel that very personally, being good friends with four fabulous men that we've lost.
Things like life's journey does change folks priorities, we've lost members to broken families, grieving lost relatives and dependants, work and career stress leading to the urgent need for a lifestyle change and so on, you know... Life!
I know what you mean by the "after a Weekender" collapse that you refer to. While I won't ever go into details, nor probably ever know the true story all I can say is that it can sometimes happen as a result of stress, fatigue, bitter disappointment, misunderstanding, clash of personalities and a fair bit of alcohol.

With all that in the past we do have a growing membership. Times have changed and here we are with a club to run.
As you are well aware the present "caretakers" are burned out and have our own very much recently changed lives to lead.

The thinking, and easy option is for us to give up, switch it off and split the proceeds. If that's what people want, there's no need to do anything it will be automatic and inevitable.
The future dear friends is in your hands. Please think about responding positively as soon as you can.
My next option in the face of no-one coming forward will be to just set a date for the switch off.

I still think it doesn't take a lot to be a true club. Couple of ride outs, two breakfast meets and a small amount of genuine online assistance. That being said, of course it still takes some work to cover admin duties. For those who are a little, or more, interested in stepping up - after ~17 years working for "my" club I enjoy the actual fact that there is more and deeper appreciation than it seems to be. Just a little hard to see, but it's there.

I'm interested in assisting where I can, although it appears to be an extremely convoluted issue here from what I've read. I am in the fortunate (???) place where I do not have a social media account, in which I decided to remove myself from it due to the massive amount of colossal dickheads I used to call friends. So from that perspective, I am clear.

I get that Social Media things now seem to take precedence over Forums like this, but there will always be the stand hard users who refuse to adjust. The fountains of all knowledge of very specific issues which will sit back and wait, I've had a plethora of motorbikes over the years, and forums like this are worth their weight in gold. Even though I'm fairly new here (2017 rejuvenated in 2025), I'm happy to assist if welcomed. If not, it's cool. Let's just see which direction this place goes;

What is it you want to do?
You could do worse than get a local group meeting going. The club is well represented in your area as far out as Leicester, Melton Mowbry and Peterborough. You could do worse than finding a place somewhere between Kettering and Luffenham, that kind of area.
Its as simple as finding a suitable venue and calling a date.
The East Anglian section usually meets on the second Sunday of the month for a breakfast at about 10.30am.
We pick a different venue every month, although we are down to about 3 firm favourites that we rotate now.
It's groups like this that will survive UKMOC if it goes to the wall, or even possibly save it.
 
I'm quite alarmed at the deafening silence!
No one has offered to take the reigns and keep the club going.

Both Rob and I are resigned to terminating the forum and therefore the existence of UKMOC, as nobody appears to care enough to keep it going.
Trust me it's not complicated and doesn't demand a lot of time and you'll be rewarded many times over by the warmth of the membership.

I'll give it until the new year and then let you know the end date, so you can get the contact details of your buddies on here and keep in touch.

It's an enormous shame to lose all this, but if the interest is not here, what's the point?
 
I probably spend less than an hour per week behind the scenes doing tech stuff. usually in five or ten minute chunks now everything is set up. obviously setting up and migrating the forum was in the weeks.
and there’s another techie available in case something happens to me so gazza isn’t left high and dry.

I forgot to mention that each new member needs to be approved and activated which also falls to the webmaster, but can be delegated with the appropriate permissions
Pedro, a former president of UKMOC has been doing this for years.

Ron, it depends which aspect of club management you want to get involved with and to a large degree how much time you want to dedicate.
It's very much a case of the more you put in, the more you get out.
Even before becoming the prez I was pro-active in organising events such as special runs, weekends away and VIP visits, mainly to historic aviation museums. I also actively encourage the formation of regional groups and local meets.
I managed, with a little help from my friends, to pull off a great weekender in 2018 and also got involved in the subsequent ones to a lesser degree.
I wasn't the only one doing this of course, but now there is no-one that I know of engaged in this and I think it's very important for the future of the club and to make it vibrant again.
It would be good to see an annual gathering return to the UKMOC calendar.

We could of course carry on just as a keyboard club, much as it is now, but that does need the chore of fundraising attending to. That's probably the most urgent one for now and does need the application of a little time, but I'd say no more than a hour a week.

Many hands make light work, so the more people that step up, the easier it is for everyone.

I’ve got some health issues atm and if can resolve those I’ll be happy to help.

I will be mercilessly bumping this thread every time it goes quiet.

Max724 and Ron1000 are thinking about what they can do to help, so if you have been thinking of offering any help, it's now easier as there should be less to do now there are already volunteers.
It should never be the case that all the tasks and responsibility fall to just one or two people, so don't be afraid to raise your hand now, as you won't be the only one.
