Hi guys,
The potholes have claimed another victim.

What’s the thoughts on this being repairable!

No, do not even think about it! Even car alloy wheels with much thicker dimensions cannot be safely straightened, only surface cosmetic work is safe to carry out. This wheel has already done it's very best work to save you, by not disintegrating under this impact. Even it is made to look apparently OK, you cannot then expect it to withstand much more impact stress without cracking apart disastrously. Anyone who might claim to be able to fix it for safe ongoing use would be deceiving you.

easy fix for the frame straitener Guys in Kent , did my 750ss one 8 years ago ,,they do many every year..

Ouch 😫…..perhaps before going to the flaff of dismantling and transport costs (+ the repair cost) it might be worth checking the online auction sites and breakers ? Do we know of other models or makeswho used these wheels ? Assume it’s on your 899 , James ?

+1 for motorliner in Kent, they do a postal service and their work is top class, I've used them and wouldn't hesitate to use them again, highly recommended, they will paint it for you after repairing it too.

Yeah the 899. …sad the 899 was mint until then. I’ve put a council claim in but I doubt I’ll hear back.

Cost new from Ducati is circa £1100 so that’ll be a no. I have read that the 899, 959, and 1199 wheels are all interchangeable (except disc sizes). I’ve also read that the 821 and 797 wheels are the same also!

EBay is anywhere from £300 to £600 for a front, seems the fronts are the ones that always get wrecked 👀.

I’ve found a guy down near me I’ll see what he says. But motoliners are £100 so not terrible really.

A reputable wheel repair place won't touch it if it won't be safe after straightening. It depends on the alloy the wheel is made of and how the wheels are forged which determines the crystaline structure. Think cast iron, different iron additives and different forging temperatures can make it brittle as glass or very malleable.
On the side I know someone who has one of those old smart roadsters, the alloys are super soft and after a few paid for fixes he now keeps a heavy soft hammer in the car!!

You could also try ST engineering in Newark, he straitens and repairs wheels.

I've used ST Engineering in the past.
They were in Foston, Lincs at the time.
(a quick google says that its actually S T MOTORCYCLES, and they are still in Foston, near Grantham .... 07917 718008)
I put a similar ding in the original, front, three-spoke wheel of my M750 when I hit a pothole.
Looked very similar to yours.
It didn't deflate the tyre and I was able to ride the 5 or 6 miles home without losing any pressure.
I didn't actually watch the work but he has a number of special holding fixtures to suit various wheels and uses these fitted to a large centre-lathe.
I was very pleased with the work.
The wheel came back straightened and with the paint touched up such that it was virtually impossible to tell that anything had happened.
Charged me £50 if I remember correctly, but that was about 20yrs ago.

ps. I realise that the comments about hitting it with a big hammer are somewhat tongue in cheek but for the sake of other readers who might get the wrong idea I will emphasise that its important (or at least much preferable) to press rather than hammer the damage out and even more important (critical in fact) to do so while supporting the surrounding material close to the damaged area.

I hear you utopia I absolutely have not taken a hammer to it. I got the tyre taken off today, it looks worse imo, looks like it’s forced the flat part up slightly. Anyway motoliners can advise.

Wheel repaired and on its way back to me now. Simple repair in the end although it might need powder coating, once I see it I’ll decide.

Anybody got powder coating colour suggestions? I’d be keeping the rear black…don’t mind going lairy 😉. Realistically gloss black with a red stripe would probably be best.
