Monster 900Sie 50000mile refresh.

Will definitely give him a shout later on this year as I need my 900 painting all one colour and the carbon side panels lacquered again.

Any idea on price for non-mates?

Sorry I can't help you with his pricing. I'd refer you to the phone number in the last post for more details.
I do know his booth costs £20 an hour to run, which I obviously chip in for.

I can help out with decal positioning and a code for Rosso Red though.

It's been a very busy week!
I picked up the paint for the engine covers on Monday and went on to collect a few bits for the Triumph.
I managed to get all the covers painted, making sure to warm the aerosols and keep everything else nice and warm. I took care to wear a canister respirator, the primer is an epoxy paint and it stunk when I took the mask off.
The colour I had chosen gave me the same reaction as sucking half a lemon, it was a bit sharp and citrusy, but I think I'm getting used to it now.
I got a reaction on the alternator cover for some reason, possibly because the VHT paint on that is only a couple of years old, whereas the other is over 11 years old. No matter, on Tuesday I flatted it back and re coated from primer upwards keeping the everything really warm and the aerosols a good distance from the casing using very light coats. It seems to have worked and the rest of the day was spent catching up with Hamish and Richard and hoping Hamish is not serious about putting knobblies on his 620ie!
Wednesday saw a dash to get some bits for the Zero with the temps still not nudging past 4° all week.
I did get the alternator case back on the engine and filled it up with oil.
All Thursday was spent fetching my bits back from Oakham in slightly warmer but grim weather and appalling traffic!
Today the sun came out and temperature rose dramatically. What a beautiful day. Working with the workshop door open listening to the birdsong was heavenly.
So now new belts are on, the covers are all in place and still getting accustomed to the new colour (I think?)
The clutch has had a little bath and is back in it's case and various little cleaning and fettling jobs going on to the RH side of the bike while it's facing this way. I also fitted the new SS steering lock stops with Ti half nuts, only to find I needed longer screws, so those are ordered and hopefully will come quicker than Accu have been taking recently.
Looking like I can get this ready for an MOT next week if I keep the pace up over the weekend.

I'm on the home straight now, with only a couple of minor irritations.
I've been compounding and waxing each piece of carbon before fitting it and it's now all in place.
I've fitted the new rear indicators that I got from Bitza and they look very smart. The rest of fitting the tea tray didn't go quite so smoothly!
I hate that stupid bar that holds the loose tail light contacts in place, with it's fiddly little screws. unfortunately I managed to pull a wire off trying to tuck the harness in-between the frame and light, so had a double dose of fannying with the bar and contacts to get the wire soldered back on.
I made a little harness for the new LED Number plate lights, fed it all through and fastened the tea tray and number plate holder together.
The new lights came on when tested but then went out along with the tail light after about a second every time. A painfully long time testing everything eventually led to diagnosing a duff LED, so I've remade the harness with another pair of the same lights that I got for another bike and they work fine
Disappointingly they are quite pathetic at actually lighting up the number plate and won't do! I have some LED strip ordered and will make up an illuminator along the lines of the previous, but with better weather protection and more up to date LEDs.
New indicators and crappy number plate illuminators.

Today started with a ride out to meet the Daves at Stanton and I bumped into the fella I bought the Triumph off.
This afternoon I've fitted the recently re-polished exhaust system. I've found that this can't be done with the centre stand down, so I have to resort back to the paddock stand to get the front and back sections pushed together. Otherwise the centre stand is proving to be brilliant for working on the bike and it takes up less space upright, no paddock stands sticking out front and rear either. So that's centre stands on all 3 of my bikes and the Monster is way the easiest to deploy due to taking a lot of trouble over the geometry of the assistor arm.

I'm very annoyed at how the colour of the cases has worked out and had an involuntary gag reaction earlier when I caught the timing side covers from the front. It's not right and it needs to be changed eventually. If only I knew of someone going overland to Italy who would be willing to bring me back a can or two of Ducati Magnesium Engine Gold. I don't think it would be a possibility on a plane, not even in hand luggage.

The tank is now complete with Cap, catch and frame rubbers ready to go on and filled with petrol, so tomorrow it should be pretty much there.
The 11 year and 7 month old Motobatt still has 12.2 volts after over a year's lay up and still never been on a charger. I just hope 12.2 volts is enough to spark her up, be a shame to put it on a charger now.

Have to say the indicators really do make it! Oddly enough I'm scheming on how to get rid of mine, maybe a project for (me) next winter.

Yes, thanks again for the nice new winkers Mike, complete with Ti screws. :p

I do think it odd to want to do away with indicators and I also don't understand the trend for invisible leetle teeny indicators that you might as well not bother with. Quite a few cars have adopted this "stealth" trend and have indicators too close to brighter lights so you can't really make them out.
I personally like big bright clear indicators to give myself a fighting chance of being seen by those myopic front bottoms in big metal boxes and hopefully reacting! I always quite liked those '70's Yamaha ones, about a three inch circular design on long stalks. No excuse for missing those.

On my electric bike I don't use the brakes very much due to the powerful engine braking from the re-gen, so I've fitted an inertia switching system that reacts to deceleration and flashes an extra pair of bright lights at the back.
The Energica has this system built in as standard and flashes the brake light.

I also have a full size number plate and I intend to get that lit up like Piccadilly shortly.... Be safe, Be seen boys and girls.. 😇

Great thread Gary and good to see some progress.

I did have a question for you about exhaust polishing but probably better if I start a new thread.

Well it didn't take too long to get the tank on and connected up, I've also made up a new breather drain pipe with new tube and the old "Y" piece.
Good time to test the fuel level light as well, which still works.
A quick trip to a get a can of petrol between showers is always a laugh, pulling up to the pumps on an electric bike and putting the nozzle in the top box. :ROFLMAO: I never seem to get the attention I crave though!

Petrol in and test the fuel light as it fills, then check for leaks. All good. (y)

I turned it on and off again a few times to make sure the fuel rail filled and got up to pressure, then pressed the button.
No problems after I remembered the fast idle lever, she soon settled to a steady tick over when I backed the fast idle off.

There we are, bit of a non event really. All ready for the MOT. The weather is looking better for the end of the week so I'll probably book it for Friday and hope for a dry ride to try and keep it clean for at least the first ride.

Just the oil to top up, number plate light to sort and lock stops to fit, which can all wait till after the MOT if needs be.

Bitza's Titanium cush drive pins arrived this morning, along with alloy wheel spacers and Ti adjuster bolts. Very nice it all looks too!
I'll probably hold off fitting those for now, but we'll see how the week goes.

Thanks Darren.
I've seen that one and it is nice for sure, but a bit too "modern" for my bike.
This is the one I'm after. Ducati Magnesium Engine Gold. Or Magnesio Oro. It's a Metallic, Satin.

Ivr seen it for sale in the states but they wont ship overseas. I have some ex colleagues there but have not keot in touch unfortunatley. I could maybe reach out?

plus: 30ml pre-thinned for airbrush, great for 1/12th scale models but you’ll want a job lot to cover your cases

don’t think the panigale colour is very different, maybe a little paler

I wondered if it is just for touching up small areas but I suppose you could ask if they can make up a larger batch?

Yes it's available in the US and also Italy and they certainly won't ship it to the UK.
Not sure if this is because it can't be air freighted in an unpressurised hold, or if the actual paint is banned from sale in the UK?
I know a couple of members in the US who might oblige but would have to check they would not be breaking any laws by sending paint.
I also have a contact who works in Italy and the rest of Europe who might be able help, as he goes overland in an enormous lorry full of Ducatis and F1 cars.
Looks like this will be a separate project of international intrigue. 🦸‍♂️
