Hi,

I’m about to whip the filter off my 1993 M900. Is there a specific tool to get the filter loose? It’s a bit too recessed into the case to get a normal tool on the end or even a strap / chain wrench around it. I’ve had this snag a couple of times now and wondered if I’m missing something simple!

Thanks!

That’s great, thanks. I was looking at one last night to be honest but it’s nice to have it confirmed. I find the area a little constrained to get a decent sized chain or even strap wrench in!

Sorry if this is too late, the filter tool that I use is marked as 76mm, 8 flats. Be aware that this size doesn't necessarily work with aftermarket filters as the number of flats may vary.

Fell out with my pal ….I was convinced that he had “borrowed “ my filter tool for my 1050 Sprint St and failed to return.
I was just over the 6000 miles when I got back from our Slovenia trip (which included the Picos last year) ….searched and searched , called him all the names ( he has a track record)….ordered a replacement….crawled under the Trumpet to remove the filter…and guess what ? I found my old tool still stuck tight to the Hiflo……! Over 6000 miles …..I bought him a pint…..😝
