Buell and Italian Day 2026 East Kirkby.

Option one: purchase an advance ticket which speeds up direct entry at the gate.

Option two: on arrival, park up in the public car park and pay on the day at the Aviation Centre's admission centre before presenting your receipt at the gate.
 
Who is thinking of going to this hopefully I can get an MOT and come down, bike not finished but should be rideable.

So.... After watching the weather forecast for about a week, I set off on Saturday morning on the Monster, with some trepidation and a plan to watch the skies for dark clouds. (Easy across the Fens.)
I had no intention of riding on the first wetted roads after gawd knows how many weeks of dry and heat! It can be worse than ice, because you can't see the slippery bits, it just all looks wet!
In the event I had a dry and warm ride all the way there and back, which was a joy, I even managed to gel with the Monster again, it being the longest ride I've had on it for a couple of years at least.

First impressions were that the security regime had changed somewhat. They've had an online ticket system for a few years to streamline entry at the gate, but this time Chris was manning the huge iron gates and rubber stamping our wrists before we went through, So we had to stop and take a glove off anyway?! I even got asked to show my stamp at one point in the NAAFI.

A couple of old friends on their Hayabusa were already there when I arrived, as was Dacs and the Lady Dacs, who had driven up the day before and stayed overnight.
DukeDesmo also rolled in accompanied by the clatter of a dry clutch. As far as I know we were the only club members there and only two Monsters to show for it.
I did spot one old codger on one of those current model bikes they named as a monster, but I ignored him after being so rude about UKMOC on this very forum. (he is no longer a member.)
I also spotted another Monster leaving that I hadn't noticed previously. I'm sure it was one I had seen there before with a wicker basket full of fancy cheese and wine? (Anybody on here?)
Generally the bikes were all fairly modern and quite down on numbers from previous years, with the exception of the Vincents which were out in force along with the Buell crowd of course.

The NAAFI was notably much improved after its extension and facelift. The cook, or perhaps I should say the chef? Bent over backwards to please us and more than succeeded. Top marks and excellent food and coffee.

Although still a really good and interesting event, it's a shadow of the shows they've put on in years past. Maybe the threat of rain hanging like the Sword of Damocles had put folks off? I think in the case of UKMOC it was simply a case of not being arsed... Shame.

Hopefully Dacs will be along at some point with some pictures, as my camera refused to co-operate for the second time in a week! I think it's heading for the bin!

Thank you to everyone who attended the event at LAHC East Kirkby on Saturday 15th August.

Although this event doesn’t attract the numbers it used to, it’s still popular with enough people to make it worth doing. Next year’s event has been booked for Saturday 14th August.

Regarding hand stamps. On the morning of the event, we were asked by the Aviation Centre to stamp everyone who was entering the site on an advance ticket. We had no prior knowledge of this requirement.

Because visitors can just use the café without paying an admission charge, they need to know who on site has paid and who hasn’t paid for admission to the museum.

With regards to the stamp, we were only asked to see it on exiting the cafe which seemed strange, no-one checked the stamp on the way into the hangar/museum.

Confused? I am. :unsure:

Anyway, wrist stamp mystery aside - looking forward to next year's event. (y)

I understand the stamps now, it wasn't a problem anyway, just thought it was counter-productive to your online ticket system.
It was still a nice day out regardless.

I think all these bike shows are dwindling to what they used to be, many have gone of course, notably the Fenman at Wimbotsham, which was HUGE.
Evening gatherings like two wheel Tuesday and the Whitwell Station meets on Fridays seem to have become way too popular and just attract noise and boring bikes.

Thanks for the link to your gallery, My favourite was the White Buell, not that I'm a special fan of Buells, but it was very well presented.

To clarify, as explained to me, the café exit was the point at which they checked the stamp because you are then entering their museum and can go onto visit any of the exhibits.
