Seat cowl question

Do they just slap into place or is there some clever concealed contrivance to keep them there?

Couple of thumb wheel type bolts underneath.

It's a good move to change them to bolts as some theiving scum may simply twiddle the stock thumbwheel screws out and be off with the seat cowl.

So there is no fitting kit as such, cos I was just checking spareshack and they are selling a 'spare fitting kit'

Tis true - almost happened to me. You need the fitting kit if the cowl don't have a couple of little brassed wings underneath. You'll also need some washers because the bolts don't fit.

Glueing them up with some super glue works well. Just means the tea leafs can't get them undone without getting the seat off, which requires the key. They still come off easily using a screwdriver once the seat is off.

If you own a Ducati V twin bike then buy some Loctite and use it.
On everything you would like to keep on your bike.

some of the seat cowels DO need a fitting kit they have 2 brackets on the
underside which need to be attached so the thumb screws can be used.
I've attached a pic of the underside of my carbon cowel
This is only for some makes of cowels you need to check with Stuart
