Accuracy of Speedo

Like a few other apparently I've fitted the Ducati Performance multi clock crome instrument panel (hopefully some where on this post is a picture pinched from norries post).
I've had Alf's of Worthing (a Ducati 'specialist') fit it, together with a service and MOT and am hoping to play with the bike at the weekend (come on sunshine).
Anyhow Alf reports back that the speedo is a 'bit funny' at the moment, and when out on the test ride doing 80mph the speedo kept going up (90, 100, 110... mach1), with no extra throttle. Now it may be that it just needs bedding in. Has anyone else had the problem or something similar? is this the begining of the end? is the speedo cable about to break?

Spoke to Stuart @ spareshack where I bought it from and he's had no feedback about this problem.

Hi Graham - Collie-dog had the opposite problem, hers under-read by about 30mph for a while, just before the speedo cable finally snapped...

PM Fodder or Collie as they sorted it with a new cable, then also bought some of those fancy clocks - guess us Sussexites have too much money eh?

I think the new clocks came with a new speedo cable so I'll talk to Alf and find out is he fitted that or used the existing one.

In the mean time I shall enjoy crusing at a steady ton+ marveling at how the traffic seems to be keeping up.

I've had the bike out tonight and noticed a similar problem.
At low speed it seems to be well out but more accurate at higher speed.

Norrie - Don't know about the accuracy at low speeds, seems ok. I can now explain better my problem having got the bike back.

At about 65-70mph the needle goes mental and spins up to 140mph and stays in the region of 120-140mph until my speed drops to 20mphish.
I've now done a hundred miles so I think the bedding in is out (if you follow me).
The kit came with a new cable and thats been fitted.

Any ideas?

I spoke to Stuart today and he said he hasn't heard of any problems with them.

Have you tried undoing the cable from the wheel end (or both ends for that matter), then redoing it up - maybe the cable hasn't seated/meshed properly?

Also the wheel end drive gear could be worn - therefore not engaging the speedo cable properly?

Otherwise ??? Although I'm pretty sure Collie/Fodder didn't have any problems - send them a PM (although I think they are currently on holiday) and ask...

could well be that end not sat correctly, as I doubt the wheel end would suddenly wear if it was fine up untill the change over.

goodness Ive just seen the picture. its certainly interesting looking!

I think I've cracked it (Que kiss of death music).

I think it down to the 'sharp' bend going in to the clock. 'Coz the new clocks are further forward and spread all over the place (in a very pretty way tho), the cable is pressed tight on the headlamp.
When I rode home on Monday managed to get the speedo stuck passed the 140mph. Got home well happy (not), anyway gave the cable a tug and it reset itself.
The cable had been clipped it in place using the cable guides thing under the light. By taking the speedo cable out and leving au naturel (or loose) getting better readings on the dials.

Still not quite right but nearly there (I think). Now have to find best cable routing. Do Ducati do an 'extra' long speedo cable?

I'll tell you what I have just noticed which I never thought about at the time.
They have no trip meter.
It's going to be a bugger to remember how many miles you have done since you have filled up.

Yeah, notice it about a week ago. Bit of a bummer. And the postit notes keep flying off when you pull away from the lights.

Still on the whole I still like the look of it.

We can always rely on the fuel light as an early warning signal. It does make fuel light bingo more difficult.
