Angry Broken caliper mount

Aghh - I tried to ride off with a disc lock on and have broken the caliper mount. There's suprisingly little metal holding it on in the first place, so (ali?) welding it back on doesn't seem feastable/sensible. Ducati are quoting £277 for a fork leg!!! Need to phone Stuart at SS back today for his price. No luck finding a second-hand one yet. Any other ideas?

You could try calling Viv at V-Tech on 07711821170, I think he has my old fork bottoms, they are from an S4R.

If he does'nt have them, try JHP on 024 7633 5300 ask for David Reilly.

Good luck.

graeme s,

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Pairs of legs often come up on Ebay at very reasonable prices for early M600's, the other option to look at is ringing round the breakers such as Bike Enders etc..

Remember legs from other monster models 600/750/900 (along as they are a similar age) should fit ok, but you'll have to swap them as a pair to keep spring rates, damping, leg length etc.. matched.

What year/model is your M600?

Think you will find the wheel spindle size is different (much bigger hollow spindle) on the s4R, as it is on later monsters like my own 900ie. The early 600's use a smaller diameter solid wheel spindle, and the leg size (diameter) may also be bigger on the S4r.

Ahh, that would be old fashioned stylee non-adjustable forks then (Marzocchi's) with the small diameter, solid wheel spindle.

Much the same as my old 1995 (M reg) M600 I would guess?

Something like this perhaps.....

Where as this is the newer style lower fork leg, with the larger diameter hollow spindle as on my 900ie...

The mudguard mounting and caliper mount / fixing bolt spacing is also completely different on the later monsters.

Finally a close up...

Mine are actually late model 916 legs - but are basically the same as the Showas fitted to later monsters at the lower end.

Hope that helps
