Tecknorace
Well after a lot of deliberation I took the plunge, Manuel has been super busy this year and eventually mailed me to say he had availability to build my tank.
I have considered a few options but it all boils down to longevity for me, getting a new/ decent used plastic tank with maybe a protective coating inside still has the risk of swelling / bubbling at some point, this option eliminates the risk. I did ask the question regarding ethanol and got this response, “For the type of petrol there is no problem because I make tanks for Ferrari McLaren, and Gordon Murray and use the same aluminum used for the construction of your tank. It is for these reasons that the tank is not cheap, because the materials used are the top.“ Ok sir, good enough for me,Deposit paid and away he goes, I asked for some pictures of the build so I can post here, he sent my these today so take a look how it’s done.hoping my tank is the silver one on the left 94F7ABF7-A0AC-4C77-9F04-446430D6C7EF by Mike OConnor, on Flickr D68456B4-964D-4F3E-90C7-44B827442E01 by Mike OConnor, on Flickr Last edited by Moco1961; 14-07-2022 at 03:07 AM.. |

That's something beautiful. What models does he do as is pump and battery placement. I obviously couldn't afford one but if I could I would wish to have one but also with the seam around the latch. I 2ont ask the price but I consider skills to be warranted to worth the money.

That's lovely Mike, you won't regret taking the plunge and you'll soon forget how much it cost.
I'll be interested to see underneath when you get it home, unless you already have some photos of your bottom? I'm interested to see how the pump hatch is done, presumably it will utilise the standard plate and gasket that you already have in your plastic tank? I've been swatting up recently and trying to get an idea of how to go about panel forming by watching endless YouTube videos, but I'm not sure I can afford all the equipment just to make one tank. I think it might end up being either all carbon fibre or a crude alloy fuel cell under a carbon shell?

Evening, wow that was a long day, just got back from Donington, see separate thread. So thanks for all the interest,
…yes ally will be part of the design with black of course Geoff has saved me the embarrassment of posting a view of my bottom, kato jumped in with the link so all questions answered I think. It is for sure a great bit of engineering , expensive….well yes but I look at it this way, I don’t collect Rolex watches or rare whisky , and the tank was a fraction of either and I don’t have to worry about what fuel I put in. Oh, WiP, I spotted the Japanese site during my process of elimination, they ARE expensive ! |
