Monster 1200s 2016 USB power source
Hi all,
Looking to mount a usb charging point to my handle bars somewhere so I can charge phone, sat nav etc. I have found an un-used connector under the front left hand side of the tank that I believe can be used for this purpose. Does anyone know what connector I would need, it’s not one I have seen before? Failing that, I charge the battery via the DDA plug under the seat using the optimate DDA to SAE lead, could I simply use a SAE to usb connector and run it to the bars? I have read conflicting thoughts on using the DDA as a continual power source. Cheers |

The front left connector is for heated grips, it’s 12v NOT 5v (as is the optimate/DDA connector under the seat)
That said I had a phone charger plugged in on my R via ‘Raspberry Pi’ transformer on the front of the bike. Last edited by slob; 01-05-2020 at 04:30 PM.. |

i bought the heated grip plug and transformer on ebay, the amp connector came from a broken phone charger.

Parts ordered, thanks very much 👍.
Might also steal your idea for the mounting point on the steering damper! |

The reason not to use the DDA/Optimate connector is that it's permanent 12v direct to/from the battery, the grip connector is switched by the ignition key. If you have a transformer connected to directly to the battery it will gradually drain the battery, albeit very slowly. I had a tracker on the the bike so had to keep it on an optimate via the DDA connector anyway.

That makes sense, I use the DDA for charging so will leave this free.
Parts arrived today so will give me something to do while we are unable to go out and ride... Thanks again. |
