m900 silencers

Hi,

Need to remove the sleeves from the original silencers ,as they're marked.Need to get them polished then re-anodised.Anyone have any experience of stripping apart this type of silencer? Look forward to your replies.Thanks.

Hi Adie and welcome.

You can get the alloy sleeve off the exhaust cans, but it isn't easy.
There are some useful videos on YouTube that show how to get them apart for coring.
If you unbolt the triangular hanger from the can it allows the alloy sleeve to slide forwards. It only goes forwards a couple of inches though as it runs into the integral splayed link pipe. That allows you to cut the back end off stainless steel inner can where it is hidden from view. You can then slide the alloy sleeve off the back of the can as that has taken away the flange that kept it in place.
Depending how early and original your cans are, after 94ish Ducati put a splay on the leading edge of the can (To stop it scraping the road and digging in) which needs to be pulled out to oval to allow the sleeve to slide off.
An easier alternative would be to cut the alloy sleeve along the underside and spring it over the flange. It could go back with some discrete pop rivets to hold it tight, but wouldn't look "Original" if someone is looking really closely.
Whatever you choose to do, it is probably worth picking up a cheap secondhand can to practise on first.
Good luck and don't forget to share photo's of progress.
Mark
