Monster 1100 Evo wilbers rear Shock fitted

The Wilbers rear shock arrived last week and I got round to fitting it yesterday.
Thought it would be a nice easy straight out and in job WRONG!!!!!

Put the bike on the front paddock stand and the rear on the rear paddock stand, removed the seat and got my step ladders set up over the rear of the bike with a couple of tie down straps supporting the rear of the bike (when the shock was removed) using the step ladders as an "A" frame

The lower rear shock mounting bolt hole is partially covered by the rear hugger, there is not enough room to get one of the hugger bolts out, so off came the cans, the rear wheel and the rear hugger :-(.

Once all that was off, it was an easy job to remove the shock.
Swopped over the top mounting clamp to the new Wilbers unit, and slotted it straight in, nice and easy.
One good thing with the Wilbers unit is that they have already fitted them to an 1100 evo already, so they have pictures and instructions to fit the Evo. it even comes with a mounting plate for the remote compression bottle that is bolted to the underside of the subframe, so the hose is at the right angles and of the right length.

Due to time restraints I could only take it for a quick 15 minute ride.
Wow, what a total revelation it was, and I was still running it on the standard setting it came with, no longer does it pogo or jar your back over the bumps, way more stable in the corners.
Well worth the money, speak to John at revs racing if you fancy one.
Forks will be coming off in the new year for some changes as well.

Neat job that- it is amazing the difference it makes by having suspension tailored to the rider and use makes.

I already have a Nitron shock fitted to my old 900 but my forks are up at Maxton at the moment while they work their magic with them.

Would love to send my forks to Maxton, but at £600 per leg, just can not justify it :-(

The Evo has sealed marzochi units, so you can either respring, put thicker oil in and change the crap non click compression adjusters for some nice K-Tech click adjuster ones or go to Maxton who bin the cartridges and put there own in, and if you want fully adjustable ones they are nearly £880 plus vat on top of that :-(

Ahh I didn't realise they were sealed units - a lot of companies are going that way now I believe.

So I presume they would fit the GP30 cartridges for that which I presume only come in fully adjustable spec?

I am lucky with my old 900 as I can get away with the GP20's and I'm not bothering with all the adjustable options as with my (even older) race bike I have found them to be perfect once set up properly for their intended use.

I bet the GP30's would be amazing though- surely the bike's worth it??!!??

Yep it is Flip, but after forking (no pun intended) out on termi's, rexxer flash, carbon, rear shock over the past 3 months the good lady in doors is getting a bit peeved, so best lay off the spending

Ahhh yes I know that feeling, with my Monster in desperate need of some loving through the Winter not long after spending 'quite enough thank you' over the past couple of seasons to get my race bike just about to my liking.

Trouble is next year my race bike is the big Five O and I know I am going to 'have to' buy her a present or two to celebrate!!
