How do you recycle old crash helmets

I have an old crash helmet that is 15+ years old and recently fallen from a shelf 8ft high on to concrete. It hasn't been used for ages due to its age and now need disposing off. I've cut the straps off. The other half is not to keen to turn it into a hanging basket. I don't won't to put into landfill. Any thoughts?

spray it up as a lego head and save it for fancy dress or give it a kid who will then grow up wanting a motorbike

Local Ambulance Stations used to take them.

They use them for practicing helmet removal at RTC's.

Nick,
I took mine to the local fire station for them to use for motorcycle RTA training, they were well chuffed.
But am sure any of the emerency services would be happy to if you offered them.

Generally cut mine in half and dispose at the recycling centre. I change my lid every five years or if I drop it. So if it's not (IMO) safe why let other use it.

As for donating it to emergency services, just be careful, if its better than a lid one of the staff are using it may get swapped for their old one.

I like this idea very much.

You can all send your old helmets to me so I can steal this idea.
