Tyres (again!!)

So then, the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres that came with my EVO have been superb to say the least, but after just over 2500 miles the rear tyre is almost dead.

I was wondering if I should go for a set of the same, or try something with more 'touring' credentials...hoping that I get a few more miles out of the rear. I normally swear by Pirelli and Metzeler tyres (same company, I know)... so the options I had in mind were...

Angel ST

Sportec M5 Interact

ContiSportAttack 2

Qualifier II

I've used Angel ST and ContiRoadAttack (not 2s) before, but on heavier bikes, and I'm wondering if the lower weight of the EVO would be a problem when it came to dry/wet grip. I can be a bit of an aggressive rider at times you see...

Any thoughts on these options are gratefully received

Dunlop Qualifier IIs - just fitted them to my bike, they're fantastic! Great in the wet, heat up much much quicker than the BT016s I previously had fitted, loads of feedback and frontend turns so much better than before. Have to say I have fitted pirellis, bridgestones and michelins and i think the dunlops have been noticably better! Sorry for not being on the list!

Also not on the list, but the michelin pilot road 2s on my 750 have done 5000m and the rear still has a nice round profile. I'm expecting at least another 3000 from them.
I'd probably have PR3s next time though.

PR2s didn't agree with me...so I'm not keen on putting them on the EVO. None of the Bridgestone range float my boat either...

I didn't like P2Rs either, great when new but not good when part work. I used Angel STs on my last bike and liked them, predictable and never had a slip, though didn't inspire the confidence that the Dunlop Sportsmarts do that I use now.

Dunlop Sportsmarts rock

Fitted 3500 miles ago and the rear is still not squaring off, my BT016's were totally shot after 4000 miles although being so soft they felt brilliant once they had warmed up on a nice day. The Roadsmarts just feel 'nice' and inspire confidence, I've never had an arse twitching moment when they go away from you. Marketed as a do it all tyre for sports riding, occassional trackday or touring; for once believe the hype they are that good.

Oh, and they look nice as well.

I use Maxxis as well good boot

I bought them using three criteria
1 Cheap
2 Roughly round
3 Black

It was my Grand Fathers criteria for buying bus tyres for London transport as well.

After rosso's and rosso 2's (which only lasted 2500 miles ) I went for thr road Angels and absolutely love 'em. Really stable, soak up bumps and lumps better, good lean angle and should last longer due to thicker tread.

Maxxis are much better than they should be for the price, the only reason I don't have a pair on at the moment is that when I was changing tyres there weren't any available.
Ran the touring through winter 09/10, fast warm and and very predicatable in all conditions. The sport version feels solid even when the exhaust is dragging, just doesn't last as long as the touring.
Must try the diamond next.

Hi Neilo,
I've got Pirelli Angels on mine. I've only done 500 miles on them but they feel great up to yet. The test bike I went on had Angels on and they were very confidence inspiring on a very wet ride.
I've had Road Pilot's on another bike and didn't like the at all.
