TD report: Oulton Park 27th July 2011

Gorgeous weather! Although, it was a day of two halves regarding red flags. Pretty quiet in the morning but the stoppages seemed to increase in the afternoon. I did have some technical woes which I learned to ride around, albeit a bit slower; changing down to 2nd gear it kept jumping back into 3rd so any suggestions as to what that might be will be muchly appreciated. JP was killing it once he knew his way round, and was scratching like a confused chimp everywhere! I reckon he'll be back for more soon!

Good to catch up with buzzbomb again. I'm going to nick your streetfighter and get rid o' them chicken-strips. Just kidding matey! Also good to meet the bloke on the hyper who's name I never got, sorry.

All in all, a good day. Full UKMOC report from JP to no doubt follow.

Good to catch up will you Dave, Mand was on top form as usual and JP was just enjoying himself on what I think is the best track in the country, hope you got your passport stamped Justin and that you'll come back for more and bring some of the southern members.
Dave the chicken strips will slowly get smaller as I get more confident with the beast, the suspension is now much better after a visit to Kais in Atherton on monday were Andy White worked his magic, I think its the best 50quid I've sent on it so far.
Nice to see you all and the hyper rider was Sam.
Geoff.

Hi Dave,

Yes I was the Hyper rider. Good to catch up with you all yesterday. Pity your afternoon was a bit hit and miss. I presume JP made it back, although he may have taken a little time. :0)

Four and a half hours to get home at progressive pace but with plenty of rest stops and a 10 minute snooze at one point which set me up wonderfully for the majority of the ride home.

So, as far as Oulton Park track is concerned, it's wonderful, tough but wonderful.
It's like Cadwell Park with all the elevation changes and the big long 2.6 mile track, but it's more difficult than Cadwell with blind crests & rollercoaster undulations but it is wider.

Rather than being a mostly road bike based day, I reckon 95% of the guys there had their transport and tyre warmers with them.

I was very cautious, as always, for the first session trying to simply figure out where the hell the track was going, but once into the second & third session I was scrapping my kneee on every corner as I got more confident and posed for the camera man.

The fast group in front of our Inters group were unbelievably fast and actually made me feel queesy looking at them coming into the start/finish straight, nothing like I was going. I'm never going to be that fast. But one thing the fast group did do was crash a lot and there were lots of red flags on the day and a very nasty incident which stopped us for over an hour just before lunch. A bit of the same after the long break with two going down in the Inters and that just made it all a very frustrating day. My best runs being just before lunchtime.

Thanks so much to Dave & Mand for looking after mee and to Dave for letting my try and keep up with him at his home track. The only times I got past him was because of my extra 362 cc's on the straight's only for him to outbreak me and whizz off out of the corners.

Ah that's where you sneaked off to at the end of the day. I wore the garland on the top step of that podium a couple of years back

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. It was fun riding round with you; looking around and seeing you giving it the berries out of Lodge was ace! I hope the photos come out, one photo in particular

Make sure you come back soon.

And I can highly recommend starting a trackday without a hang-over. It was much better than my usual approach to a trackday.
