Semi will be fine for you're 600, I've always used Rock Oil if you want a brand recommendation

is it a

wet clutch model? if so semisynth my 750 is wet clutch and i really b****ed it up using full synth oil - it makes the clutch slip and it has taken about 4 - 5 oil changes using semi to stop it. - and i think i may still have to change the clutch plates.
Pete.

Don't Ducati recommend Shell Advance Ultra fully synthetic - or is that just for the later bikes?

I use it in my 695 and it is good stuff - bear in mind that air cooled engines run pretty hot and will trash a lot of oils fairly quickly. I seem to remember using the Shell Advance in my old M600 also and that was fine too.

This is true (although cynically I think that is just a brand tie-in) - certainly I (and others) have had similar wet-clutch slip problems to snakey in the past - whether that was due to the oil or a bad production batch of clutch plates we may never know, but one suggestion is to use a semi-synthetic, and perhaps just change it more often?

I've been using Synthetic SAE 5W/40 (from halfords) in my M600 2001. No clutch or other problems.

Yup me too - but that was on a 1995 M600. Drained off Shell Advance & put semi synthetic (rock oil) back in. Wasted £40 on oil but at least clutch went back to normal ... ho hum

You may well have a point about the brand tie-ins. I used the Ducati recommended Shell chain lube and it was absolutely cr*p! Took about two cans of chain cleaner just to get rid of it too.......
