Totally agree with the outcome but it is sad to reflect that if he had killed someone he probably would of only got an 18 month ban, small fine and community service.

The story was on the main news last night, showing the footage his idiot mates had filmed.
My thoughts were more about the ammunition this sort of thing gives to the anti-biking brigade.
As one of the "older" bikers on this forum, who has been riding since i was old enough to hold a licence (16 yrs old in 1970), i've seen the slow erosion over the years, of any rights that we used to have, the helmet law in`73 looking back, was probably one of the better pieces of legislation, although at the time we didn't think so.
What really gets my goat, are the new wave of bikers who have only bought a bike, because it's fashionable at the moment, the weekend wally's as i like to call them.
You can spot them a mile off, usually wearing very colourful brand new leathers, on an R1 or similar, i would love to see some of them at 7.30. in the morning, trying to make it to work in a snowdrift.
There is definately an element of motorcyclist out there, who will cause more legislation to be introduced for the rest of us to deal with, a bit like those who go through life leaving a trail of destruction behind them, then leaving the rest of use to clear the mess up.
Would be interesting to know if the knobhead intends to return to biking after his 12 week "break", or if he will continue to cause mayhem on the roads, maybe in a Subaru or an Audi TT next time, because he's bored with bikes now, because he got caught!

he's gone to prison for comitting a crime with no victims, because of what 'might' have happened

Crust, I think you put it very well. There have been a spate of these kinds of stories recently and the common theme has been stupidity. I reckon most performance bike and car owners push it on occasion. Most are sensible enough to do it somewhere discrete. The fastest and funnest riders I know are stealthed - very respectable with legal bikes and if they do something fun, they do it away from the public and they do not film it and release the footage to the world.

Fun still happens - done by the bright young things.

Partly agree with BluprintZ I was out for the MAG anti helmet runs, distain the new gen boy racers who just get in the way of me making {cough cough} good progress in the morning and for some reason drag their feet along the ground till they get to 30+ .. maybe it's the spinal deformities the poor hunchbacks have.
However I also spent years (mostly my formative bike years) doing stupid things with various bikes like Yam YASs, an overbored GT380, an H2 750, Elsies and TZRs so I've done my share of insane and stupid things often more than a few times.
The only difference was this was quite a few years ago, it was the same world but had a different twist to it, less intrusive rules. We didn't post videos, super 8's didn't mass distribute easily but were just as reckless or was it care free, maybe we didn't care being young enough to bounce and heal fast.
Mostly we might have been standing up on the wall but didn't shout about it so rarely had the cack tossed at us. As newmon says pick your time and place with care.

Slightly off thread but shows how the Road Safety Managers consider us as the weather is getting colder, today over Snake Pass and Woodhead in the Peak District today they were taking down all the THINK BIKE signs. I take it they aren't expecting us this weekend

And i also agree with you Nick, completely!
I too had a tendency to wear out the rear tyre (and sprocket), with a collection of various two stroke twins and triples, large capacity Jap fours and the odd VW trike or three, in the seventies and eighties.
I had a Kwak S2 750 triple with expansion boxes, that was built for standing on the back wheel, let's face it, they didn't like to go round corners, so it was a case of making the most out of their straight-line abilities, of which i did quite regularily.
Same with the XT500, always on the back wheel, the difference in those days was that there was much less traffic about and the plod drove around in Ford Escorts.
Of course there were the traffic cops in their Volvo estates, although they usually didn't stray too far from the motorways, so it was considered just bad luck if you got a tug from them.
As for cameras, the best you could hope for was the hand-held radar gun but you usually knew where they were likely to be and besides, vehicles coming the other way would always flash their headlights and give you a thumbs down, considered to be the universal sign for alerting you to a speed trap.
So yes, you could certainly get away with much more "brains out" riding in those days, plus there wasn't the same amount of signage to contend with as there is today, i don't remember when speed-bumps came on the scene, or those horrible red stripes that are supposed to slow you down as you enter a 30 zone.
Looking back, i suppose we were just as daft as the young-uns of today, it was just much easierto get away with it then.
So i retract my previous post because if i don't, then i stand accused of slagging off the riders that we once were, in our time and that would be considered hypocritical and i would really like to think that i'm not.
I still think the guy was a knob for posting the video though!
