696 - how many miles to the fuel light?
After having an S2R and an M1000 and on both being lucky if the fuel light came on as late as 100 miles, I was thinking that the bulb had gone on the 696.
The fuel light finally came on at 165 miles - anyone else getting that kind of range or is it just cos I is running in? Carole |

I bet it's the running in. If you're being real gentle and sticking to the low revs it makes it som much more efficient.
The tank is 15 litres, 3.5 litres is reserve, so if the light came on at that 3.5 litre mark that means you used 2.56 gallons of petrol, which means you got about 64 miles a gallon ! Cool, just like a scooter...

Ive never checked, but that seems good. How good have you been with the under 6000rpm rule ?
One thing i do know is,my bike ran out of fuel within 6 miles of the fuel light coming on.Not so good. |

Mine comes on at about 150-155 miles, and takes about 13-13.5 litres to fill from there.
Taking it easy I'm getting 55-56mpg, riding it like I stole it sometimes drops that to 51-52mpg. These are real figures, properly calculated, not guesses. I've not pushed it too far on reserve, but I know it'll do 15 miles at least! |

Well, this one time at band camp, no sorry, that's something else.
This one time at Brands Hatch on my current S4R Testastretta, the fuel light came on at 65 miles. That's 26 mpg. Emmm...

The best I got on mine before I get the "dying in the desert" phenom was 96 miles downhill with a tailwind in neutral, being towed and pushed, with the engine removed, extra lube on wheel bearings and tucked in like a whippets tail....Lets face it who the hell buys a monster for fuel economy! Even if I put my hand on the throttle you can hear the engine sucking in pints of petrol; the injectors are like water canon and it gives me a slap if I put anything less than 97 octane in the tank. Admitedly its mapped to stall below 4gs drowning the pistons in petrol but show me a Monster lover who cares about MPG and I'll show you a Honda Melody owner. Shame on all of you even thinking about it. Maybe I am writing this from the side of the M32 waiting for the AA and a petrol can, but thats not the point! Humph!

Can't believe you only got 6 miles off reserve though - that's really scary. Carole |

My wild guess is that you aren't actually filling the tank up properly. I hold mine upright and dribble fuel in until it's covered the little hole in the filler kneck. Brimmed! How much fuel can you get in when the light comes on? Otherwise it's possible that the fuel lights come on at different levels on different bikes due to production differences, I suppose I get easily 150 miles to the light, and I'm not being easy on it......See this thread - http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=29140 2000 miles on the clock, in 7 weeks, now...... |

I'm currently having problems sitting properly - after 2 weeks of ownership, my little 696 has 2600 miles on the clock.
A few things to be sorted out - the clutch lever is still too far for me to reach, the screen I think is too low (even compared to previous monsters) so am looking for the touring screen. All in all - a good bike. Hope you get your reserve sorted! Carole |

150 miles to reserve must be nice.
Best i've had was 111 on nothing but motorway, worst was 66 riding back from the Supercar breakfast club at Goodwood with some "spirited" riding to keep up with a Maserati 4200 and a Ferrari 360. Good fun though!! |

Carole[/QUOTE] You can get a taller screen from Ducati in clear or smoked but it means removing the 696+ headlight cowl.Might do the trick. |
