Wiring Diagram 2 wire Alternator

All
I bought the uprated Regulator/rectifier box as the old one was boiling hte battery. Trouble is that the wires are a different colour to the original and the connectors are different.

My bike is a 1997 M900 so the wiring was originally correct for that model.
Has anyone got the wiring diagram for the latest regulator/rectifier??

New reg/rec on old bike

The alternator is a 2 wire one (2 yellow wires)

The old reg/rec has 2 yellow wires, a double red-wire, a white and a black wire these connect as follows
Reg rec side-to--bike side
2 yellow------to--2 yellow
double red---to--single red
black----------to--red with black line
white----------to--red with white line

The new reg rec has
2 yellow (I can guess what they do!)
2 red
2 green

Any help

gratefully accepted

id stick the
two red to +ve battery
two green to -ve Battery
and cross your fingers

on the old set-up id guess at the single red and the red with black line being a longer way back to the battery errm perhaps with a fuse in there

and you wont get a battery light on the dash for the battery being dead any more

sounds like you have a slightly different reg/rec to the one I've recently got for me 92 750 SS again a 2 yellow wire version i got that from electrex world (via a main dealer) and that's a RR51

funny coloured wires

Scotty
I think you have hit the nail on the head it is the 2 non-red-or-yellow wires which are the problem.

The original Reg Rec uses the frame as earth the othter wires are
1) a feed from the battery to give charge control
2) the feed from the voltage regulator light -

so they can't be wired to earth - that would be a radical change for a replacement part.

The risk of total burn out of battery ,loom & reg rec seem very high here. ,.

was yours a 2 wire alternator pre 98 monnie?

Wrong Reg-Rec?

Stafford
thanks but I already had that manual - difference is I paid for it.

As far as I can tell the 1997 Monnie was the last one with a 2 wire alternator [anyone know better?] and my 97 manual shows the bike's wiring to be standard; with the 2 red wires with stripes as above. On the Electrex site their M900 reg/rec replacement is shown with the correct wiring unlike my new one.

The new Reg-Rec I have is a Shindengen SH673-12 which is in a Ducati box marked as M900 and 2 web-shops are selling them as M90 replacements. It may have been fitted to French Elefants?

So I cannot prove it is wrong but it doesn't fit at all so I am going to go back to Riders and try to get my money back.
