Billy Baxter Blind Monster Rider - Need Help
CAN UKMOC HELP BILLY? OF COURSE WE CAN!! And you could help yourself to this unique piece of Ducati Racing Memorabilia Click here for more details SUPPORT MOTOR CYCLE MONTHLY’S BLIND BIKER! Motor Cycle Monthly is backing an astonishing attempt by a blind biker, Billy ‘The Whizz’ Baxter, to ride a solo lap of Donington Park. This incredible challenge will take place at the Bennetts BSB championship meeting on 23 September 2007 in front of thousands. Billy is already the fastest blind biker in the world, passing 164mph! He is hoping to tuck another record under his belt with this daredevil stunt – the world record for the fastest single lap of an international race track by a blind person. Ducati UK have joined the team and are kindly providing two 695 Monsters for the event, one for Billy and one for his out-rider Malcolm Wheeler, a former TT racer, who will be giving Billy instructions over a bike-to-bike communications system. As this will be the penultimate BSB round for 2007, the crowds will be out in force and the pressure will certainly be on for Billy and Malcolm as they navigate the track. Billy will not be satisfied to wobble round the track in first gear speeds though. When Billy accepted BBC TV’s Top Gear ‘celebrity in a car’ challenge he lapped faster than Terry Wogan! Billy, who lost his sight whilst serving in Bosnia in 1996, will be raising money for the charity Vista. Billy said, “I have to do extraordinary things to get the Press and the public’s attention but the hardest things to do when you are blind are the ordinary things. Vista work with people of all ages and if I can inspire the young kids they work with to do the things they want to do and help raise money to achieve it, then it must be a good thing. I love motorcycling - the freedom, the speed and the acceleration. Bikers are people with big hearts and its terrific Motor Cycle Monthly is behind me in this”. Ducati Airwaves BSB star Leon Haslam met up with Billy at Donington Park on 18 April and as well as giving Billy a few helpful tips, Leon was full of praise for Billy’s BSB lap challenge. Leon said, “I think what Billy is doing is absolutely fantastic. It shows that no matter what the handicap, people can still achieve the things they want to achieve.” If you want to support Billy and Vista there are three easy ways to do this. 1.
