Calling all mechanical engineers!

Hi everyone,

Im going to possibly show myself up as a bit of a nerd now, but I'm a Product Designer using 3D CAD, and I've always wanted to do a 3D model of a Ducati.

The biggest obstacle is creating a model of the engine, as it's the building block of the whole bike assembly. Doing the model of the engine could take me hours in itself. So I wondered if anyone out there might know of anywhere I could get hold of a 3D model of an engine (pref. 2V 900) as a starting point?

I used Pro/Enginner Wildfire 3, so ideally in the native file type, but otherwise IGES or similar is fine.

In the meantime I'll think about getting out more, perhaps on my real bike...

Hey just a thought...

Papier-mache your monster!!

Wrap your monster in old torn paper dipped in glue... wait a few hours and...

...Voila a 3D model!!! Piece-o-P*ss!!!

Thanks Darry, that's pretty cool. Not perfect, but not a bad effort - the tank is a little wonky, but that's one of the hardest parts to model anyway.

As for the papier mache thing - reminds me of the folding paper models you can get on the Japanese Yamaha website!

Now....who changed my blummin avatar?! :-D

i sculpted an engine block from clay about 4 inches long, moulded in plaster and resin cast in two halves in an ali based resin with black belt covers and copper bolts. Took me about 30 hours in all and gave up on the project in the end after +200 hours and most of the bits complete like tank, cans, frame, wheels etc. Shame really. Hope you have more luck and don't become as sad as me
