Hey all, I got a simple question

How much can I expect to pay for a full service on a 900 monster that is, let's say, 8 years old?

I assume the bike has done 40k miles already and has been reasonably looked after.

Also what would be the price of a new set of standard tyres?

Any other expenses I'm likely to be paying to keep the bike up to standard?

This is more than one question I know, the title is just to get you reading this and hopefully answering!

Thanks!

40k is a lot of miles. If it's not been done already, expect to have to fund a top end rebuild and rings.

Mine needed doing at 26k, did it myself though

Smile New Tyres

I do most of my own servicing - I am one of those wierd guys who gets a kick - and satisfaction - out of doing it himself. But for tyres, I took the wheels off the bike myself (well, I would, wouldn't I?) and took them to "Ride In Bike Tyres" in Reading (0118 950 0300) and got myself a set of Bridgestones installed for £185.

Chains and spockets are another regular 'consumable'. Busters Accessories (on the internet) have some good deals on chain and sprocket kits for the Monsters.. I've just fitted that myself. "Oil and filters" is a relatively straightforward job - eased somewhat with help from Mr.Haynes and his book on the bike. The Haynes manual contains some odd information, but for routine work it is quite good - and cheap if you locate a second hand on on flea-Bay. Replacement break-pads available at a good price from brakes4u.co.uk on the internet - again.

By all means use the dealers, but do remember that they have premises to maintain too and a job that may only take you 30minutes in your back yard will still have to help them fund their investment in equipment and premises if they do it for you.. Maintaining it yourself is a great way to monitor the health of your 'mount'.

zxebeast,
Are you talking about a specific bike that's actually done 40K miles, or just one that's theoretically covered that distance? It's rare to see an 8 year old 900 monster with 40k on the clock, and I guess less than 5K a year is the average for a lot of Ducati owners. Mind you there are a few very high mileage monsters in the club, which proves they are reliable if maintained well.

You could get a full service for about £250 - £350, or go DIY & save money by doing some stuff (like belts, oil & filters) yourself.

Tyres are available for less than £150 fitted to loose wheels if you shop around, and there's a fitter local to me charging sub £200 a pair for a ride in/ride out service.
