Tricati Project

Well the trike project is finally off and running. Picked up the kit from Hanks workshop (Trike Design) near Cardiff mid September, and spent the last few weeks putting together the rear subframe unit, and pulling unwanted bits off the doner bike.

Stalled for a few days while I worked out a way of supporting the chassis. This will be minus its rear wheel and suspension for some time, while the rear subframe is attached, and needed to be adjustable for both height and alignment. I modded a pair of old axle stands into screw jacks, which support the bike on vee's and a solid metal bar through the swingarm pivot.

Next phase of build is to work out how to join the subframe to the rear of the bike. Current plan is to chop about 150mm off the end of the swingarm, and weld it to the frame via a couple of extra vertical 1" dia CDS tubes. Then brace the swingarm above & below with more tubes to give a rigid welded framework, by which time the shock, hoop linkage & rocker arm can be ditched.

Waiting for the a new 130amp gas/mig welder to arrive this week, and will be shopping for some good quality steel tube & plate. Then it'll be out with the angle grinder, after a lot of measuring and lining things up, and things will start (hopefully) to fall into place over the coming months.

The big silver bit next to the sprocket is the differential assembly. The halfshafts, calipers discs etc.. not fitted at this stage. Aiming to have the trike completed and passed it's mot/SVA ready to hit the raod in March 2006. Fully prepared to be burnt at stake/drowned in pond/stoned to death by the purists in the club at Arrow Mill in May.

Like I care

If you have to ask Alex my friend - the answer is simply because I can

Before I enter into any trike vs bike argument - have you ever ridden a trike?

Teatray or noteatray? that is the question!
....or even two teatrays, I'm sure JMo has a couple spare by the bins.

Hmmm... now that's a difficult decision to make - not!

Teatray support is one of the first things to get an appointment with Dr Angle-Grinder. One thing this trike is going to be is minimal & no frills, my only concession to practicality being a neat Q/D rack which will plug into the ends of the seat rails.

You can fight me for it at Mallory, although you might need to get a bit gymnastic to get your knee down?

I'd like to see JMo try and stuff me up the inside going into the hairpin next time! Roll on spring 2006

Oooooh, but stick a towbar on like Sandra has too - how cool would it be to have the trike, with your regular Monny on a trailer behind it?!

As for Mallory 2006 - you just keep that old barge out the way fella... heh heh heh...

Well...that's a first isn't it? Never heard of a Ducati being converted to a trike. A+ for originalÃ*ty even if I'm not that fond of trikes.

No, I've never ridden one...
