Oil Consumption

How much oil should I expect my 2001 M600 to use? Its just done 2000 miles and the level has dropped to the minimum mark in the window.
Whats the volume of oil needed to top up from the minimum mark to the max or should I just change the oil anyway?
Regards
Jim

oil and filter

hi there

sorry don't know the top up measure......(just add & check until right)

make sure it's upright !

I would change the oil and keep an eye on it

Very little(sorry, don't know the exact quantity). Sounds about normal to me.

IMO,what do I know, this seems a lot. My 2001 M600 uses almost nothing between changes, about 5000miles, the bike does 300 miles every week and has just passed 40K, The only sudden loss of oil I experienced was due to a pinhole sized puncture in the filter.
Change often!

Maybe lucky?

My 94 M600 had an oil drinking habit for a while. Was having to top it up every 250-300 miles (top up as in from max. mark to min. in that many miles), not good. Finally put it down to the wrong oil. Changed the oil a while back and went for fully synthetic 5W-30 (as recommended by haynes). Got told by a couple of people that its not really suitable for M600 engines (not with 38,000 miles anyways) so changed for semi synthetic 10W-40. Seems to have done the trick, did that about 300 miles ago and its still sitting on the full mark.
