Mk1 speedo, trip meter woes...

I have noticed that my trip meter is failing to get with the program, and is working to it's own, slower agenda. The regular odo is fine, it's just the trip. When resetting via the knob it feels very rough and notchy, and when hammering along, the tenths wheel chogs over fine, but the rest do not. Any suggestions before I rip it apart? The clock was recently removed t replace bulbs, but I cannot say whether the trip was fine immediatly after this, as riding has been patchy since.

i made the mistake of replacing bulbs in clocks with some different colour ones
they must burn hotter as the insides of the clocks started to melt inperticular the trip and odometer , i cunningly got one replaced under warentie apparently they had never seen anything like it errm and the revcounter has some sort of oiley plastisiser mist in there which i cant get rid of now ho humm

i ended up painting the standard bulbs with bulb paint and spilling said paint all over us desk thers not much takes that off

humm i should realy try some of that wonder chemical, chloroform ,on it)

Space, when I replaced my speedo I, like a lummox, overtightned the screw in the trip reset. When i finally removed the thing I found I'd managed to miss the little hole for the screw because second time (and screw) it worked fine. Might be worth removing and retrying as I got the same feeling as you describe. Sometimes its the simple things, but then this is Ducati.

Cheers, dudes, I'll check out both tomorrow. The Book of lies quotes 3w for the bulbs, and I think I put 2.5s in so that should be fine. The screw is deffo worth checking...

Nasty little fiddly thing it is. One of those that you drop on a pristine floor and lose instantly.

Bingo! Alas, it was answer a that proved correct, and I have managed to put the bulb from the dash of one of Uncle Henry's finest Cortinas in there, which is 5w and it has trult melted the trip wheels.

So.... firstly, does anyone know how to get to the inside gubbins of the clock, that is, how the heck do I get the clear plastic bezel off? Failing that does anyone have a spare mk1 speedo, preferably with high miles (less than 32k)???

but i think its difficult and you could well nacker it trying id have a go and then curse and swear a lot and only then get a new/2nd hand one

Yeah, already scoped it, but it's the nasty grey clock face, not the white with red numbers like mine.

well if you do dammage yours beyond repare, then you could swap the dial faces over with the 'dull grey' ebay item, if you were confident about not nackering another one that is.
