Exclamation Careful MSN users - VIRUS ALERT !!!

Thought I would warn you lot about this little nasty - I ended up having to do a fresh XP install after getting the following (or a variant of it):

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ven...serflog.a.html

You wouldn't believe what it can do and you really don't want it.

I'm pretty sure we got it cos one of my kids accepted a new contact, which turned out to be some crap. He blocked it but it was too late by then, bye-bye PC....

It seems to doing the rounds so be _very_ careful accepting new contacts or accepting files.....

Yawn.....

Pete

i had a strange msn alert this morning quite out of the blue. her name was Alyssa and we met last summer in Montpellier. lovely girl, probably would have married her but then as these things do it just frazzled. after many months of transatlantic silence she landed again this morning.

crazy world eh.

"Be happy. Cherish every moment....and don't forget to twirl in fields.
love Alyssa"

you see im just a pussycat really.

for the record its easy to stay free and clear of victor virus.
you just got to be one of the good guys.

ciao

Well I hope she was cute, not "Really Cute.pif"

Try banging that string into google :-)

Top entry at the moment...

OK, update for the interested ones. After 2 days and nights of wrestling with the PC, everything more or less back to normal (minus all sorts of stuff, but at least it's working, can access the network, mail etc). Kids back on MSN again.... "Dad, come and look at this..." There was the accept "Really Cute.pif" from one one of my kids contacts.... Thank god I was here this time and not in the pub

Subsequent discussion with the kid..... Ah, yes, seen that file, and that one, and....

Owner of contacts PC confirm that all is not well there...

Sad world....

thanks for the warning, these things worry me as i'm not particularly good with computers, so if something went wrong i'd no idea to make it right again

if you get caught by this sort of thing again, try
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp
or
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
housecall seems to find more stuff than stinger though
