New Dash Or What?

Hi Guys

Just picked up my 2014 Monster 1200

I knew the dash had a hairline scratch on it when I got it, and then in my stupid haste to try and fix that, I have now made it worse

FYI don't use a Dremmel to polish your dash!

Been quoted £728 for new dash from Ducati (better than I thought TBH)

But is there any way to just replace the plastic cover? (not a DIY as I will fxxk that up)

There is nothing wrong with the dash, so it seems mad to have to replace the entire unit just for a few marks on the exterior plastic cover?

Thanks

I’ve never used it but you could try something like this as you’ve nothing really to lose:

I did this with a car dash after a giant scratch from my wedding ring. Start with wet and dry using the finest grade you can get away with to remove the scratch then work up to finer grades but use it all over the dash so its all the same. Keep working slowly through the grades until just very fine like haze is all over the dash. Then I used my Dual action polisher with a really small pad and various cutting compounds to bring it back smooth and shiny.

You could also look at something like Meguiars headlight scratch removal kits.

Head over to detailingworld.co.uk where you will find loads of advice on all things scratch removal but prepare to become addicted to polishing and cleaning in ways you never thought thing would be done

To be honest guys I don't want to resort to sanding and polishing just yet, it's a kind of last resort prior to buying new.

But I have done headlights in the past with good results, it's a bit scary though on an £800 dash!

You would think that like some mobile phones you could just replace the front screen?

There is a local guy who advertises that he can get scratches out of phone screens, so he's going to take a look, but not sure about that :/

the surface does seem to be an extremely soft plastic, not perspex at all.
I used an anti glare protector from https://www.speedo-angels.com/
if you can get it sorted ok, cover it to avoid further damage
... good luck with the phone guy

You used to be able to use finger nail clear varnish on glass watch face scratches as it removes the "white" making the scratch less visible - may be worth a try.

Note: DO NOT USE varnish REMOVER it'll eat the whole bike

I've seen people get good results with this stuff, although I haven't tried it (yet!) myself

There is actually a guy selling a used dash for a 2017/2017 R or S Monster 1200

Does anyone know if I could use that as a replacement?

I know the R has a gear indicator, would be nice to be a be able to get that hooked up!

There part numbers a totally different though :/
