The only things were
A Cylinder head bolt snapping.
Flakey engine paint sorted when engine dismantled for the above
Other than that I’m happy.

There's nothing I don't like about mine.

The fact that I can't get the remote reservoirs from an ST4s rear shock to neatly fit under the seat of an S2r is frustrating but that's not really the Monsters fault.

The slightly swollen tank is annoying but would (will) be fixed if I had (when I have) the money.

Just wish I had more time to ride the blinking thing...

1200R

Eats tyres when ridden fast
Drinks fuel when ridden fast
Risk to license all the time

No wait... that’s everything that makes me love it!

Swollen tank issue

Engine should have been black ( quality paint ) from factory, not silver.

Tank should hold more.

Higher bars.

Belts should be cheaper ( feckin rip off! , all brands)

I have to be honest.. I don't really DISLIKE any of these apart from the last two.. the first three are just minor annoyances..

1) The 1200 R does not have cornering ABS and wheelie control when the 1200 S does.. this just bugs me
2) You can't get an official Ducati Quickshifter (DQS) for the 1200 R
3) Under seat storage (lack of)
4) Wife getting in the way of me spending more time on the monster
5) Work getting in the way of me spending more time on the monster

I love my Monster R

1. Stupid flip up side stand, cured with mod
2. Silly short front mudguard throws everything at engine etc., fender extender fitted.
3. Tendency to scratch tank with zips etc., cured with full cover carbon tank protector.

Otherwise all good.

(1) the indicator switch is wooden
(2) the single side swinger looks fine but is a total pain to service and a proper swinger would be lighter and stiffer
(3) the pipe should be lower to allow luggage fitment
(4) I would ride it more frequently in winter if it had 50Kg and 50hp less

Can't really think of any!
Love it to bits!

Finding it a little awkward shovelling it around - but there I'm only 5'7'' and 79 years old - short ass gerry!

S2R

Fuel tank and ethanol .. though now replaced and sealed

Rear shock lacking any useful adjustment.. will be replaced

Front shocks lacking ANY adjustment .. Can live with that given a decent rear shock

Standard exhaust too heavy and quiet ... we can has termis Anyone want some standard silencers?? No hmm there's a surprise

Not so nice front calipers .. must get the old golds rebuilt and fitted

Else not a bad package, though my 748 has all the above as standard with cornering speeds that are sometimes a bit buttock clenching. The S2 can give you that feeling but it's usually not because it's calmly managing more corner speed than you're used to more that it's more than the shocks can manage ... still a reasonably 'quick' bike on the right roads
