FREE 3 spoke rear wheels

OK. so I'm meant to be moving on the 8th of Nov and have two rear wheels that I don't want to take with me. These are a second generation 98 onward 600/750 type 4.5 wide for a 17mm spindle (the one with the tyre on), and a later type for the larger spindle 5.5 wide (with foam to protect rims). Both are in a dark grey/silver colour. If you want one or both of them let me know asap and we'll see what we can do about getting them to you. These are for free. Bitza

For the record, you can swap from 17mm to 25mm spindle simply by replacing the bearings and the internal spacer so either would work in that respect.

First, 350TSS sure no problem pm your address and I'll find out what it's going to cost postage wise.
Second re- swapping bearing to suit the different sized spindles is I'm afraid to say a bit of miss-information. While the two types of wheel are probably both machined out of the same blank they are different, in hub width and the depth of the bearing cups. The later big spindle wheel is wider and although you can get std bearings with the same OD to suit both spindle sizes (ID) the bearing are of different widths. As I remember it the smaller spindle bearing is the wider of the two. If you are really determined you can get bearings designed as wheels which run on the extra thick outer race with a 17mm ID, but you still have the width issue to overcome. Also the sprocket carriers are of different widths. I think that covers it.

Agreed on the hub width possibly being different but my (5.5") rear wheel had the 25mm setup when I bought it. I converted it to 17mm with bearings and spacer for it and then fitted it with the sprocket carrier from a 4.5" wheel and it works fine - though I did have problems with chain alignment that I had to resolve by spacing the rear sprocket out and front in so maybe that was why?

As for the front AFAIK it can be done, again you need the central spacer along with the bearings but also the speedo drive ring (if using a mech speedo) as it's bigger on a 25mm axle, might also be different ratio?

Got a spacer as Neil at Cornerspeed kindly gave me one FOC ages back - not sure on the speedo as want the stock clock set up but only if it works properly might have to look for a digital one that fits the hole.

I think it's fine as long as you fit the correct speedo drive (916 etc.) which is also the spacer.

That said I've done away with the mech speedos on both my Ducatis, using a digital dash and picking up off the rear brake disc bolts so have fitted a plain alloy spacer in place of the drive.

You could even use a wheel without the speedo cutout from a later model and avoid needing a spacer.

Need to see how the 916 unit fits into the dash before looking at alternatives - this is a medium budget resto-mod build so I'm trying to maintain the "look" of the original but with some period-ish upgrades

If you're using a 916 speedo then I think it will fit into a Monster dash, the only difference AFAIK is it reads higher (180mph), otherwise Monster speedo should work OK.
