Fuel Tank Expansion

Morning all, just woke up on a fantastic sunny day looking to repeat my little trip into Wales which I had done yesterday. Opened the garage and was gutted to see that my Monster1100 evo (2013) looked as if she had put on weight overnight.
So after looking around it is obvious that my fuel tank has expanded. So does anyone know the warranty status of this? Some forums say 5,6,7 years?
I have always put in the premium fuel when available.

Best bet is to write to Ducati UK to see what they offer but I probably wouldn’t hold my breath

Ouch!

Blah blah had a similar problem recently on his S2R and shrank the tank back by extracting the moisture. Check out his method here:

There are secondhand tanks out there. This is on ebay for only £42:

Of course, being used, it may have expanded but, having been drained of fuel for a while, it probably would have shrunk back anyway.

Be aware, if you go secondhand and get one from a non-1100 Evo model, make sure you get an ABS* tank - the non-ABS ones lack the cutout on the underside to fit over the ABS unit.

Note that not all premium fuel is ethanol free. In my area, only Esso and BP premium is untainted.

* that's 'ABS' as in anti-lock braking rather than the type of plastic!

my s2r tank has grown over the winter ! i have a spare so i'm thinking of swapping tanks & trying to shrink the original back to size ... not sure how to as yet but perhaps drained with cap open left in a room with a proper dehumidifer going (the one i used in the garage over winter) it certainly kept humidity down so heres hoping it can draw the moisture out of the tank...what a pain...

This inspired anhydrous chamber method works so well, as it eliminates the need to consider or change the ambient humidity and utilises cheap dehumidifiers.
I think the trick with it is going to be to keep renewing the cheap dehumidifiers frequently or invest a few more pennies in a dehumidifier with renewable tablets.

Sounds about right.

The old Desmoquattro (916 and the like) had problems with chrome flaking off rockers, they used to be OK and then something was changed with the supply and lots of rockers flaked.

Ducati USA did for a while offer free replacements, subject to service history T&C's etc. but when I contacted Ducati UK, they feigned surprise that it had happened and basically told me to do one...

It beggars belief really, doesn't it ?
A fuel tank which is incompatible with fuel.
Furthermore, they have acknowledged their error by moving to steel tanks for later models.
And they'll sell you a replacement for a small fortune .. which is also incompatible with fuel.
That sounds like an offer you couldn't refuse .. come with a free dead horses head, do they ?

ps I love Ducati and don't want to see them litigated out of business but this situation clearly isn't right.

Mill finish, so add in for paint and/or polish and import tax and you are looking over £2.5k. 😳😳

I thought the RoadRacing tank was a bit pricey, but that’s adding a whole lot more............
