Early M600 Clutch Cover Gasket

Hi,

I've just had to replace clutch slave O rings due to a case of disappearing clutch fluid, now I'm trying to find a gasket for the clutch cover.

Mine is an early M600 with the 600SS type motor - where the clutch slave is built into the left hand clutch cover.

I can't seem to find a p/n anywhere - I don't believe the later one 78810551A will fit. Does anyone know the p/n for earlier cover?

Otherwise a dose of 3 bond would do the job I am sure?

Any clues appreciated.

Loctite 3Bond is just fine, no gasket needed

I just had a 3Bond disaster. Operator error obviously. Take your time and clean the surfaces...make sure no oil runs out the crank case across the 3Bond...make sure all the old 3Bond is properly removed. Good luck!

3 bond is great stuff but you do need to make sure that all surfaces are perfectly clean and (particularly) oil-free plus, use enough but not too much as any excess that breaks away can block important oilways/pumps etc.

It even works where surfaces are damaged by filling in minor scrapes and nicks where a gasket may not work, I've used it on many different parts of different engines including the full rebuild of my M900 engine last year and had no leaks.

The only thing to be aware of is that, if replacing a gasket you lose the thickness of that gasket which means things now fit closer and this can be important on assemblies like crankcase halves as it reduces the endfloat/increases preload...

I'm a bit old fashioned and like to use a gasket where they are available.

Stein-Dinse list 78810551A for the 1994 M600, and have various pattern options available alongside the genuine part.

Thanks, I would prefer to use a gasket as there is the endfloat issue to consider - It looks as though 78810551A is the right one so will order one here in the UK and see if it fits.

As far as I know the endfloat issue relates only to the main casing central gasket where it affects the number of shims required at either end of the crank inside the casings to achieve the correct preload to the main bearings. That shouldnt be an issue in relation to the clutch cover
