I have done this ‘quck and dirty’ in a race paddock, by lying the bike down on the r/h side on a couple of tyres, I’d serioudly reccomend draining the oil though, even on a paddock stand.

Does it need a special puller? Or will a cheap universal one work?

Puller is 'special' but in reality, nothing special at all. Simply a plate with 3 holes in it - 2 to screw into the threaded holes that the inspection cover bolts to and 1 larger, threaded hole to screw in an extraction bolt.



They are available fairly cheaply but can also be easily made from a piece of ally/steel if you have the tools/skills etc.

Never ventured into a Ducati engine before so this will probably end in complete failure...will keep you updated! Cheers

Made a start...

Gear linkage bolt was rounded so had to chop that in half. I like the puller method for removing the cover! Much easier than other bikes. Had to wiggle the cover a lot to get it out!

I can't see any gasket maker squeezed out right at the bottom of the cover. I think some oil might have dripped and washed the gasket maker off. Do I need to redo the gasket?

Probably better now than when its full of oil!

Fitted new pickups from Carmo here in the Netherlands. Expensive (110 EUR) but really nice quality with the correctly coloured wires. I am crap at soldering so this is the more reliable option I hope!

Replaced the gasket maker just to be sure. Used Permatex grey. Looks like the original ducati colour.

Started on the button and now back running on 2 cylinders! Need to go for a ride to confirm.

Update! Did a crap job with the Permatex. Had to dump the oil and got a gasket from ebay. Now it works and runs and is great! Cheers!
