Cush drive and sprocket carrier

Hi guy’s,
Been having a chain issue recently. Upon investigation I’ve found that my sprocket carrier has been moving laterally maybe 3/4mm + the maybe 2mm that the chain moves laterally also.

So I’ve taken it all apart and put it all back together (hand tight for the moment) and the cush drive/sprocket carrier lateral movement has gone! Only the 2mm chain movement remains.

Is this correct? Or should the sprocket carried have some movement?

Also does the cush drives need lubed before going back in and able to rotate when tightened up? Or does the nut/bolt/cush drive hex assembly need to be tightened to a specific torque value, which would necessitate the need to buy a 12mm hex key?!?!

This thread doesn’t seem to have set the heater on fire

From my own research it looks as if there should be no lateral movement in the sprocket carrier and hub assembly. So M12 hex key ordered and I’ll torque it down to 48?nM. Can anybody confirm that torque setting.

I’ll also re-fit the sprocket and tighten down to 18?nM

The main nut is simple.

Sorry James, I missed this.

No (or minimal) lateral movement would be good!
48Nm sounds right, Vince hasn't posted anything here http://ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=58281 re: mistakes around the rear wheel.
I'm not sure where your 18Nm comes from. I assume you're working from the evo manual?

18nM comes from renthal for the sprocket carrier i’ve got.

I recently replaced my carrier, after too many km. It was moving 10-15 mm sideways like a drunken sailor. Despite a new'ish flange it was all over the place. The nice red cush drives were all broken (bolt separated from plastic) and most of the cush retaining tabs also gone.
I'm assuming you're half way there.
My final test was to check for play between carrier and flange. Should be quite tight. Was NOT.
Some play good to allow for twisting while under/off load, but probably not enough for you to discover using hand force.

Ok so new 12mm hex socket arrived. Everything is refitted, correctly torqued, chain on with correct slack and eccentric adjusters correctly tightened.

It’s significantly better with only 0.5mm to 1mm of lateral movement.

Cush drives look ok to me but I’ve zero experience in them tbh. I’ve also inspected the chain for more rubber ‘hairs’. None atm. I think I’ll ride it as is (only got 750 miles until it hits a desmo service) at which point I’ll discuss with the ducati dude.
