M600 Fuel Pump or Recon Kit

Hi, my fuel pump has packed up and it appears that they have fallen off the Mikuni parts list. Has anyone got a fully working pump or some extra recon parts from the refurbishment kit that used to be available from the States?
Thanks.

SORTED, THANKS

Have you tried Stein Dinse?

These pumps were also fitted to Jet-skis and skidoos hence the popularity in the USA.

Found these on Ebay but check the part numbers:

I wonder if there is a similar reason for the popularity of Trumps

I'm assuming the 600 uses the same 'snow mobile' type that the other models use?

If so this is what you want:

Obviously worth looking around at the vacuum pipes that drive the diaphragms to ensure there are no cracks or splits etc. and also if your bike has a vacuum fuel tap check that is working correctly too. Unfortunately there's no rebuild kit available for that one and it's about £30 from Moto Rapido with club discount.

Fuel supply problems

Hi,

Have a '94 M600 Monster (one of the first in the UK I understand) which won't start. Checked the spark and that's fine so going through the fuel system before I take off the carbs...

I reconditioned the vacuum fuel pump with a jetski kit and by-passed the fuel filter with a remote fuel supply. The plugs are still dry. So digging around on the www I see some Monsters have a vacuum fuel tap. Would this be the case with the first edition Monster(it has a black petrol tap on the right hand side which at first glance doesn't look like the pictures of a vacuum tap)?

The fuel lines appear original - they still have the factory clamping (which is a pain). I'm okay with a carb' strip down but as it won't fire up would be surprised if both carbs are blocked so think it is more likely to be related to the common fuel supply.

Any thoughts and suggestions most welcome.

Nick :-)

Why not rig up a gravity feed external fuel tank and by pass the taps and vac pump to see if you get fuel to the carbs? Also, if you undo the carb drain plugs does fuel come out?
On my pump the (vacuum)? line off the inlet stub to the rear of the pump was split so without the drop in air pressure the fuel pump would not work.
Incidentally, I had other fuel problems, the air vent pipe to the fuel tank that comes out below the tank was blocked and the flap valve in the filler cap was also stuck down so the tank was not venting properly.

Earlier bikes had a manual fuel tap.

Has this bike been standing for a few months ?
If so, the floatbowls may well have evapourated their existing fuel ..... and they take absolutely ages to refill.
My 750 normally starts well but after a period of lack of use I have to crank it on the starter repeatedly to refill the floatbowls before it will start. I mean at least five or six good long crankings, maybe more.
When it does eventually fire, it runs on one cylinder for a while until the second floatbowl fills properly.
This is a common issue and has driven some members to resort to filling the floatbowls manually using a syringe.
I know it makes you whince for the battery but it might be worth giving it an extended cranking (or getting the syringe out) before you resort to stripping carbs.

Hi there, thanks for the replies. I plumbed the remote fuel tank to by-pass the petrol tap and it started. Looking at the fuel system diagram elsewhere on this site it would appear that the vacuum fuel pump must be working and therefore my issue is with the petrol tap.

I will take your word that the tap is not vacuum activated. Is the petrol tap something that can be repaired? If it's not repairable is it easily available?

Thanks again for the prompt responses.

Nick :-)

Me again - just checked ebay and found this item:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-Duca...-/264003026104

My bike has a black disc on the front so am I right to think this part is correct for a '94 - it's just missing the black switch which I could swop over?

Thanks again.

Nick :-)

I think the ebay listing you linked to is for a vacuum tap.
Have you established whether it's a manual or Vacuum tap that you need?
This is the manual one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-Duca...kAAOSwHjta2mst

Are you operating the manual tap correctly? How do they work? By screwing in or out or by push/pull?.. Anyone?

Once again thanks for the replies.

I checked out pictures of a '96 Monster and it looks just like the '94 - no rev counter and the black knob on the fuel tap (up for 'off' and forward for 'on'). The manual tap looks very different so I'm thinking the '96 tap is the same but with the black knob missing. Will check tomorrow and hopefully resolve the problem.

I understand all this plumbing is because the bottom of the tank is lower than the carbs but what a carry on hey!
