Correct, I used to supply industrial machinery that used delrin drive gears in a bevel setup where the larger delrin gear was driven by a smaller steel gear.

This was a development of an age-old tradition of using 2 steel gears and was a big improvement as it avoided both the wear and noise of steel on steel plus didn't require any specific lubrication.

Also, I recently bought a 'throttle tamer' to increase the throttle movement on my Monster. This consisted of an aluminium throttle cam/tube/cable fitment with a delrin lining to replace the original (916) throttle assembly.

The instructions specifically state that it is self-lubricating so doesn't need any oil.

Thanks Tim.

I've been roughly pricing materials up.
Aluminium is way the most expensive. (you need to be able to swing 191mm diameter Jeff) followed by Delrin, which seems to be very difficult to obtain in sheets which divide into 200mm squares for the blanks.
Then there is a polypropylene type sheet. That would seem equally difficult to machine as Delrin. My experience with thermo-plastics is that they can very easily weld themselves back together behind the cut, although I believe that good results can be had with slower cutter speeds and single flute bits... Still a bit of an unknown as far as working these plastics are concerned?

Tricoya is still coming out on top for price and workability. Finishing it is remarkably easy with paint, and I think a better finish is achieved compared to what I could machine onto the plastics. Unfortunately I would have to buy enough Tricoya to make 72 adaptors and at the moment my arm is not exactly being bitten off for the 3 that I have available @£5 each.
I think that until the Carbon fibre ones get off the ground that Tricoya is the ideal material.
If we could just stop thinking of it as MDF and think of it more in terms of the Titanium of the woodwork world... It really is a different animal.

By the way Jeff I had a slight dyslexic moment when I glanced at the name cast on the lens of the new light. It says AUTOPAL.... Maybe the way the light caught it , but I was sure it said UTOPIA...

Yep. I got your interesting PM Darren, thanks.

Thanks Jerry for posting up interesting ideas for lamp units.

I went for this, just for a starting point.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2816962742...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It came with 55/60 xenon bulbs, so I thought it was worth a punt.
The light is White, which is an immediate improvement. I think it has better penetration on main. The dip has a worrying pale area in the close nearside, but a useful looking bright patch in the hedge about 15-20 yards away. Maybe a set up with the mot testers beam machine would help?
I have only pushed the bike out and shone it down the road so far as it's too cold for a ride by far, so I am waiting for a night time temp above at least 2C for a proper try out.

Be interesting to see how the light performs as I'm on the lookout for an improvement, although my Monster doesn't actually have a Monster headlight so it might not apply in my case.

I do have a Monster headlight on my Guzzi though...
