Cool Project - Not Monster

Here is my 750SS project so far:

Lightened cam wheels:

Started as Scottys 750SS, it now has a bitza 900 engine (1994 bottom end, i.e. barrels and pistons and V2 heads).

It will be white and red cafe racer style when I've finished so finished for Christmas??

Cool

Did look like this:

If all goes to plan the total cost will be £1000, including the bike.

£375 for the bike, sold all the bits I didn't need, begged and gifted parts, managed to get a free respray on the tank and special rear end (complete next week!) but still had to pay for some bits!

£150 for the wheels and frame powder-coating, £50 for the rear-sets and then bearings, bolts and other consumables.

Mark at http://www.madasl.co.uk/ did the lightened cam wheels, they are about half the original weight!

The important thing is I am still on for £1000 or there abouts!! Careful with money!

The maths is looking very good.
I have been recording EVERY cost on my last two projects, and it's suprising how much all the little bits and pieces add up to.
I managed to break even with a Triumph Sprint I did early this Summer, and hopefully will be in slight profit if I sell some of the left overs.
The Monster is keeper, so it's a slightly different matter, but I am still a bit below the market value at the moment.

I loved my 750SS, it was white and red like yours.
It was quite a revalation after riding 750/650 Triumphs for so long, but I don't really get on with low bars, and the rear wheel tended to be a bit light at times...Reckon I could get on with a naked SS with straight bars though....Erm.That's a Monster isn't it?

Project is looking very good though, and White suits the SS..Keep us posted. Good luck.

This is what it might look like if I don't change my mind:

I'm not going that far, remember I'm doing it cheap!

That's an impressive budget, Yorkie.
I reckon you stand a good chance of ending up with the best value for money bike ever built.

I've fancied building a naked ss special for quite a while now myself.
I think the frame suits the engine better as it emphasises the vee.
They look particularly good with those polished ally belt covers like Mel has on one of her monsters.
And I rather like the looks of the wedgy tank too.
Looking forward to following your progress.

If you need any custom bushes, spacers etc, I could help out with my lathe.
My charges would probably suit your budget.

Wise man. That bike was the one I let go cos the snow. I do have a nice cheap project on the shelf still though. The SRX 400 cost me £250 and runs too. I fancy SS600 front end on it though.

Ouch..!! it hurts my back just looking at it..

I hope common sense prevails and your build is not quite so radical...Got to admire the engineering in it though.

This thread has made me realise that I didn't properly finish liking my 750SS.
