2004 800ie

hi my name is Billy, live in Gloucester near the M50. I have just acquired a 800 ie monster.
I have a few bikes i have restored, CB 750 K6 (1976), CB 250 g5 (1975) Suzuki T500 1975, 2000 Vmax.

as you can see i am a fan of 1970s naked bikes. I saw a M750 monster in Barcelona and fell in love with it. I pick the Monster up this Thursday 6th sept really excited.

It's a nice motor dressed in a pretty classic monster suit.
You'll have fun with that

Seems to be more Monster in Gloucestershire these days, we ought to be organising a few rides.

Hi!
You have an 800ie, Flattop has a 1000ie & I have the middle one - a 900ie.

Great bikes - enjoy.

Hi Billy - must meet some time - used to live in Newent - get my Audi serviced with Graham Hooper at Kilcot. Often buzz through on my way to Ross and the Malverns for some FRESH air.

Impressed !

Wow! .....thanks for posting the link, very impressive, first question of many I suspect.....the engines, did you have them vapour blasted to get looking like new or is that hours of elbow grease?

Hi Moco1961
I had them vapour blasted and on some i then polished myself (a real pain). My favorite job was respoking the wheels with stainless steel spokes. I know, strange but therapeutic.

Thereputic spokes !

Hi Billy,

Thanks for the info, I am sure I will be in touch again, I have a challenge to go to the classic TT in 2020......on my 1979 gs1000 ( with stevedesmo on his ! ).

Looking forward to seeing the monster resto, good luck although looking at your excellent work I don't think you need it !!!

just unloaded the monster, not a lot needed its just v tatty.
pics now on the site, at www.shermonkel.com

the bike was kept out side and lots of the fasteners are rusting
the paint on the engine is peeling badly
scratch on the tac gauge
the numpty sold it with knackered tyres one pic shows a chunk out of the rear front passed its worn out date he assured me it had just passed its MoT
the rear tyre seems to have been rubbing the number plate slightly
it cuts out now and again for no reason
not the easiest to start when hot

so new tyres on the way the chain and sprockets are duff so i will order them next
I think i will ride this for a while to see where all the issues are ( if there are any more)

went for a short spin drives nice, not keen on the bar end mirrors they stick out far to much

Billy
