I do think its a bit short-sighted of Ducati to not have a smaller entry level Monster, especially considering it was the M600 that was the most popular bike and kept them going and pretty much saved them from going under.

The 1200 DVT engine from the Multistrada will almost certainly be used in the new Monster 1200R and the next Diavel. They'll also make an 821 DVT for the Monster and Hyper by 2017. They have to replace the engines in all those bikes by 2017 because they don't meet emissions regs. The DVT engines meet emissions regs until at least 2021.

Now that the Scrambler is the entry point to the Ducati brand (as marketing folk would say) and selling very well I can't see them building a Monster smaller and cheaper than the 821.

The Scrambler will need to meet Euro 4 emissions regs by 2017. It is only currently Euro 3 compliant so it will have an engine change for 2017. Cheapest thing would be to use the 821 engine. If they want to keep it aircooled they need to engineer the DVT system into the existing engine or design a new aircooled engine.

It does. Ducati no longer make a naked motorcycle that I like.

But never mind because other makes of motorcycle are available.... as are plenty of 2nd hand Evos and 1100s.

Photos posted on mototriti Facebook page. In typical Italian style the 1200R page on Ducati.com now shows a "discover" button rather than just a "keep me informed" button, but seems to be be a dead link!

I like it, although it seems that apart from the engine most of the changes are cosmetic which is a little disapointing

Edit: higher stance, New footpegs, lighter wheels, New ohlins... Maybe it is enough of a change and addresses some issues people have had with the 1200, namely poor foot position and slower turn in (vs the 821 at least)

Note the quote "at the rear end grip is guaranteed by the 200/55 x ZR17 size tyres"... Really?!? I'd buy one right now if rear grip is guaranteed!!!!

Ducati say that the M1200R is their most powerful naked bike ever. The recently released specs say 160bhp 96lbft, but the Diavel makes 162bhp 96lbft. Is the Diavel not a naked bike?

I guess the diavel isn't a naked technically but I see the point being made.

I bet the R is amazing but could be super expensive. I guess a 821 with carbon wheels and some trick suspension would run to similar money and be better in the real.world... But the R would be something special. Can't wait for the first reviews

Cool looking bike, just one thing that bothers me it is only 2kg lighter then 1200s or is that a mistake somewhere?

1200s 182kg, 1200R 180kg?

Absolutely! It should be an awesome machine, however best power to weight ratio is not the same as most powerful.

Come to think of that S4rs is 177kg stock so erm how come 1200s Ducati got so fat with allegedly lighter vacum cast cases?
