S4R tank question

I want to remove the tank on my 2005 S4R and there are 4 pipes connected to the underside of it. The top two I know are just breathers, they go to a Y piece and can be pulled without a problem.

The bottom two are for fuel and and labled delivery and backflow, these are held in place with jubilee clips. If I just disconnect them will fuel go everywhere or does the pump hold it back?

You'll get whatever fuel is in the pipes drain out, not much but probably enough to warrant catching it.

Just put a cloth under them to catch the little that comes out.

You sure it's jubilee clips?, I thought all the SR tanks had quick release clips where you just squeeze the surrounding plastic ring and then pop it straight off, unless yours isn't standard I suppose. It did seem to be easy to wreck these if trying to remove them the wrong way.

They're definitely jubilees.

S4R = metal tank = no quick release.

Ah, metal tanks, if only Ducati had kept those.
It seems odd not to have the better release option on the higher specc'd model but I suppose the 4 was the first of the type and would have some older fittings.

DP kit number 96440103B was offered, these are in line quick release connectors.

Maybe it's just me, but anytime I've released the hoses fuel pisses everywhere!

Also make sure you note which way round the hoses are connected, one is in and the other is out, there should be a band on the hoses (in Italian) that lets you know.

I’ve had the same experience with my metal tanks.
I keep a 6” piece of fuel hose in my toolbox, which I use to connect the two spigots together, sealing the tank once the hoses are off.

Or just fit some qr couplings. Despite being only plastic but with metal clasps i was skeptical but they've been fine for 5 years and will probably outlast the hose. And unlike those on my 748 are not under any mechanical stress, but those too have been fine for 20 years!
