1100 Evo sprocket nuts

Are these M10?

Pro-bolts have 20% off everything until tomorrow but the 1100 Evo isn’t listed

I received said nuts from Probolt but discovered that the bolts that go through the rubber cushes were in fact 1mm pitch (fine thread) not 1.25mm.
They are the originals so I don’t know if someone made a mistake in Bologna & reached into the wrong parts bin 🤭

Sorry about that, Paul. I've just checked mine (MY2011) and they're 1.25 pitch.

I've also looked on the Ducati website at the spares catalogue for the final 2013 MY and that actually shows the dimensions as M10 x 1.25 x 10 so not sure what's happened with yours

Can you exchange them ok?

Right, after a bit more digging, I found this note from Podium Racing

https://www.podiumracing.com/shop/du...ck-hypermotard

It looks like the Hypermotard changed from a 1.25 to 1.0 pitch in 2013 so, despite what the spares catalogue says, maybe the same happened to the 2013 Monster. (Or, as you suggested, perhaps it wasn't an official change but they just used them because they were there.)

Interestingly, they also list Ti M10 x 1.25 sprocket bolts for the Monster and say that they will fit ALL Monsters with five sprocket nuts - there's no mention of a 2013 change for the Monster.

You have been busy on the case Vince!
My bike was registered in December 2012 (62 plate) from memory.
I don’t know if the HM uses the same rear sprocket assembly as the Evo. Is the HM a single sider?

I also checked with Neil at Cornerspeed who services my bikes & he confirmed they were M10 x 1.25mm so who knows?

An additional thought, wonder why they changed ?

The official Ducati fiche will list M10x1.25 for MY13 Monsters, but it's an error with the catalogue, they should be the M10X1 alternative. I discovered this when changing my own sprocket nuts. If in doubt, take a nut off and use a thread gauge to measure the pitch

I hate giving incorrect information!

Yes, the Hypermotard has a very similar single-sided swinging arm arrangement as the Monster and even shares a number of parts, such as the rear sprocket flange.

Who knows why they changed? The old 1.25s had served them well for a long time previously. Perhaps a new supplier? Or perhaps they were cheaper?

I was chatting to a neighbour who happens to be a retired engineer who worked for Cummins (part of Caterpillar I believe) in Peterborough. He is also an advanced riding instructor.

I mentioned the change in the thread size as mentioned earlier. His view was that Ducati may have had problems with vibration loosening the sprocket nuts and so changed to a finer thread which apparently is a tried and tested solution.

Regarding thread sizes, there have been a few occasions when I have been unsure of the sizes when removing a bolt or nut so I decided to invest in one of these:
Just search on Amazon for:

OriGlam Screw Thread Pitch Cutting Gauge Tool, Stainless Steel Metric Screw Pitch Thread Gauge Measuring Tool, 55-Degree & Metric 60-Degree Grip Whitworth Screw Thread Gauge.
Sorry, can’t seem to make a direct link work!

Really useful bit of kit and made in Germany rather than China for a change!
