exhaust headers M900

Hi All
I'm hunting a set of header pipes for my 1994 M900.
A full system would be great, but the headers are most important right now.
Does anyone know if they're the same as 900ss headers?
I'm quite happy to travel to collect.

Cheers

Sorry, don't have a set to sell, but am sure the 900SS and M900 ones are different because of the position the rear one goes down through the swingarm.

Although I'm happy to be corrected.

They do have different part numbers.

I think both types go through the swinging arm the same way, but the tail pipes exit at different angles. so you won't be able to fit Monster silencers to SS pipes. Same issue with ST pipes.

Gaz

I think they go through the swingarm in a different place.
When I was building up my 900SS I compared both.
You may be able to use a M900 set on a 900SS with some silencer mount mods, but not the other way around.
The SS arm has a big open hole at the front and the pipe goes through the middle.
On the Monster arm it has to squeeze through the small hole left between the various webs on the left hand side and further back.

I'll load some images of the two arms into postimage and show you.
Give me 5 mins

Not the best images, but:

On the M900 the exhaust goes through on the left behind the strengthening web.

On the SS it goes through somewhere in the middle and further forward.

And looking at the images I now don't think you could use M900 ones on an SS either.

I just lifted the cover on the 750SS and I would have to agree with you regarding the swinging arm interference Simon. Something I hadn't really taken notice of before and relevant as I'm intending to fit a Monster swinging arm on the SS.. I guess that just confirms that I will need bespoke or Monster pipes for it too! Thanks for the heads up.

The pipes exit more parallel to the centreline on an SS and further back. Monster ones tuck in a bit more and angle out slightly.

Yep, I found it when i was looking to convert the 900SS to Hoop suspension in a nod to an 851/888 but didn't do it in the end.

I do still have the M900 Aluminium arm that's in the for sale section if you are interested.

Thanks for the reminder about your Alloy arm, I am bearing it in mind if I decide to upgrade. I have a steel one from an M750.. Utopia gave me one!..

For what you could potentially pay for a s/hand manifold. Unless you were desperate to get he bike up and running for me personally, I wouldn't bother. Just get MADASL to make you up a set of their big bore spaghetti headers and be done with it.

Thanks for the tech tips guys. I feel a lot wiser now.
I have a mate who can make a SS system ( I hope!) and he reckons thats the way to go.
Most OEM one's will be making cheese by now, I suppose.

Everyone will be waiting with great interest to see what sort of a job your mate makes of a set of pipes. Please keep us up to date.

The oem ones are stainless and always polish up better than new no matter how scabby they seem. So long as they are not dented or too badly scuffed. So don't dismiss a second hand set just yet.
