list of recommended suppliers

Last year my old computer finally cried enough and went phut. Unfortunately, it took the hard drive out and no information could be extracted for transfer to the new one.
I used to keep a file of useful suppliers/contacts/information including things like "how to" videos etc. including stuff like what alternative parts are OK to fit to Monsters e.g. Vauxhall oil pressure switches, FIAT ECUs etc.
It occurs to me that we have an enormous resource/experience within the forum and we could have a communal knowledge base.
For it to be useful it would need to be well organised and structured so that potential users could access the information they required. Also in relation to suppliers, it would need to have the opportunity for people to input comments re good or bad performance and to recognise that the marketplace changes and some suppliers will cease production or discontinue lines.
Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

I used to have several lists relating to supplies of:
Boat engines and other parts
Ducati/other bike parts
Land Rover parts
Household stuff

But I've found that things change so quickly these days that a preferred supplier on whatever grounds isn't necessarily the best option a week later, and came to the conclusion that the lists have become obsolete by access to the internet which enables us to get up to date information.

I do have folders in my favorites that I drop suppliers links into, but wouldn't usually just use them without a search elsewhere first.

A spinning disk hard drive?? Very quaint bit of technology.
Having had such things fall over in the past I tend towards solid state drives with mirroring and an external back up. In theory the drives can survive the sort of G levels that would literally turn me into a mushy pile of goo !! My new laptop has a mirrored TB of storage (also dumps to one of my servers) and a single TB that mirrors externally to a different server and ferrets away in the cloud. Mass storage is very cheap so why not indulge

Mostly, as with Nasher, I just look up this weeks or this days best source and go with that. Very specialised niche stuff I've usually got in a collated and saved shortcut list that follows me round my various PCs.

If you have a web browser account i.e. Google or Firefox the bookmarks are saved in your account.

You could log in on a new computer and after a few moments everything is there again.

I think a list of interchangeable parts would be useful but, as others have pointed out suppliers would be would not be necessary for the most part, easy enough to find suppliers for Fiat and other car parts suppliers or local auto factors for the most part unless it's a niche part.
