s2r800 clutch not fully engaging

but the same question

S2R - Clutch not fully disengaging engine
I have a 2006 S2R 800 and the clutch lever doesn't seem to completely disengage the engine when trying to roll the bike around in 1st gear. Finding neutral is easy enough, and it shifts nicely, although it goes into 1st gear with a smidgen of a clunk.

I cleaned up the clutch slave, flushed the fluid and changed the oil, but it's mostly the same.

The bigger issue is that when I start it in gear, the bike will move forward a bit. I can hold it back with my legs, and once I run it a bit, the issue lessens. But I wonder how I would know if the slave cylinder is moving enough? Or is it something else?

It could be just air trapped in the line. When i had a similar issue with mine i bled it and bled it a few times but was no better until i bled it from the master cylinder banjo and could hear the air come out. Was fine after that. Hope thats your problem too.

I think I'm right in saying that the 800 has a wet clutch?
This means that it's rather hard to see what lift you are getting from the slave unless you remove the clutch cover, then it will be messy as the oil will leak out!

For reference, after market slaves such as Oberon or FactoryRacing have a little less lift as they have larger pistons to reduce the effort at the lever. This gives better mechanical advantage but reduces the travel. The standard Ducati slave gives the most lift followed by Oberon and Factory Racing has the least.

You might be lucky to cure it with persistent bleeding as Darren suggests. They can be a swine to bleed sometimes.
You can get air bubbles up through the reservoir sometimes by just caressing the lever gently, only using the free play in the stroke.

I think your problem might be something to do with the engine oil though. If you use a "car" oil with lots of slippy additives it can make the wet clutch slip, so you need to use a motorcycle specific oil to prevent this.
Your problem is drag when cold though, so I'm wondering if its maybe due for an oil change or maybe you have the wrong viscosity in there?
Some fresh oil might give the plates a wash and help matters maybe? Or perhaps an actual wash of the plates to get rid of any contamination, during an oil change would do the trick?
