Exhaust Clamps

I decided that the new (to me) M1000 deserved a properly clean exhaust. Bike decided otherwise as the clamp between headers wouldn't release it's grip once the nut was off. So I decided to ignore the rust and filth and took the exhaust off the M750 and polished that up instead. Pleasing result (but not to Mr Gazza levels of dazzle) so went back to the M1000. Success, but only after this

thanks to minidrill and hacksaw. The problem was that the half-moon section spacer had rusted solid onto the bolt. So first learning point, the clamps need to be serviced i.e. losened and greased, regularly. Then I looked around for a replacement - I am trying to keep the bike stock(ish) so another of the same then. They are produced by a global engineering group based in Germany, and I could get one from an American stockist for $8.44, plus shipping, import tax, Post Office charge for collecting government's taxes and vat. So I got this

courtesy Moto Rapido's' excellent and speedy service (and discount). The only value I can see that Ducati have added is stamping a part number on it - their price in the UK, inc. vat, £29.08. Second learning point, I know how Ducati paid lifestyle branding experts for the 'Land of Joy'
