M750 sump plug extractor tool

I'm having problems undoing the oil sump drain plug on my newly acquired 1996 model. Assuming I've identified the correct fixing I've found a 10mm allen type extractor tool to be too small and an 11mm too large.Using the 10mm the fit is not very secure and I'm worried I shall damage the sump plug.Is this usually a problem? It may just be a sloppy fit due to wear and tear but I thought I would check before going further.

Get a new sump plug they are not expensive ,, many car ones are same type thread £7.99 and use a 17 or 19mm spanner head instead of Allen get the old one out with a torx socket which has been banged in if its stuck then chuck the old plug away

The original ones are brass and therefore soft, so they do round easily. Do as Jerry suggests and buy a replacement one with a hex head.

You may be able to get stainless if you shop around.

Corsair list a replacemnt brass with external hex head but they're in U.S so post+VAT could make it dear:-

I have a titanium one in mine but can't remember where from. I think from TPO in US. You may still be able to get old TPO stock from some places if you want Titamium.

Put a bit of grinding paste in the hole and use the 10mm Allen key to get it out.

Right-thanks to all-cracked it off using a 10mm allen hex hammered in to the sump plug. In the end not too much force needed. Am about to warm up engine and drop the oil when I'll examine the state of the sump plug.

Sump plug isn't too bad. Magnet doesn't seem to have too much gunge and no evidence of metal that shouldn't be there so all good!

Have you checked the oil strainer gauze? That's where all the big flakes sometimes end up.

Yes the original recessed Allen type are very prone to wearing and even with a decent Hex socket on it they don’t seem to be a good fit,

I replaced mine with one from Avanti Race Parts- after many oil changes it’s still perfect, plus it’s drilled do you can lock wire too.
