Most of the parts for my new project arrived today.

Obviously a lot to do to them yet, but all in one neat package. (750SSie)

These came with them and are surplus to requirements if anyone's interested...Titanium coloured adjustable shorties, will fit y2000 Monster or anything with Goldline masters (remote reservoir).

, oooookay, so project you say, is it a runner? From where I am sat ( that's indoors just so you know as its been raining solid since 4:00 am )that looks a fine example, what you got in mind Mr G

That fairing's standard for the 1999-on Supersport, Darkness. Designed by Pierre Terblanche, who also gave us the original Multitrada. If you look at it in profile you can see a definite likeness between the two especially in the way the fairing sides extend forward.

Rained a bit in Bologna too, arrived and it bucketed down, all better now and the temperatures dropped from the stupid 42 in the lakes to a more human 35.

The fairing ... mixed feelings about Terblanche's creations, definitely in the 'suprbikes' it seemed to be a try at some sort of update that never looked as raw sexy a the prevuios series.
They look OK sans fairing as caf style racers but to my eye the tanks don't really work as nakeds. I assume the later model tanks could be grafted on, I've got a scruffy S2R one up for grabs.

Yep, apart from the silly levers, (I have the originals) it's a bog standard y2000 750SSie.
She's in good running order apart from the ten year old tyres!! and the three year old belts. I wouldn't ride it on those belts and tyres, but the seller offered to deliver it, so no money changed hands until it was safely in my yard and switched off from a running state.

Many projects start from bits or from a rough bike, but it makes a lot of sense to start with a good complete and running example.. There's no repairing to do and the re-finishing is easier or negligible. Many of the parts are in better nick than those on my y2000 Monster for example.

I will now de-commission the bike. Drain the tank and spray in WD40, remove the battery ect.
None of the red parts will be needed if the conversion works how I plan and these will be kept nicely until the project reaches the point of no return and then sold. If the project cannot be completed to my satisfaction then I will have done nothing irreversible before the hacksaw goes in, so I will then be able to restore it back to a standard (or slightly better) 750SSie.

The Commando must be finished before I can really get stuck into this one. At the moment it will be good to have it here to measure and test the ideas I have in mind.
I've been playing with these ideas for years, but had some breakthroughs a few months ago and decided that an ie bike would be much better suited to my project than a carbie, due to both the injection system and the slightly different frame on the later SSie bikes.

I admit to having a sit on it this afternoon, but I'm not surprised I sold my last 750SS and bought a Monster!.. Crippling!
That's a shame really because it's a damn nice motorbike. I will see if I can make it more comfortable and nice looking....Wait and see...

Good to hear & a thread would be great. I've never owned or even ridden a Norton, but I remember the police bikes - got my first ever speeding ticket from a copper riding one!

I was being careful not to mention the Commando.

But I'm glad you did.

I've pondered a naked 750SS project myself for quite a while.
But in my small premises, there is only really comfortable room for the two motorcycles that I already have.
I like the way the SS frame exposes/enhances the vee of the motor.
And I think the later frames have a rear subframe section which better suits a naked.
Also, The top section of those later fairings looks decent on its own, without the side sections.

I think I'm over the worst of the temptation now but if one of the early 750s with a dry clutch came up, who knows if I would weaken.

This one was once a police bike.
Where did you get your ticket ?
Could've been from this very bike, if it was in Leicestershire.
